Daili Jun took the rag, muttering about Wang Qiqi exploiting him, but he didn't stop his movements. After all, he would need her help often in the future, so it was best to start on the right foot.
"You go clean the bedroom first. You'll have a place to rest in a bit," Wang Qiqi directed. It wasn't out of kindness; it was because, "You still have to clean your own room later. Even though the landlord couple cleaned it before, a few days of vacancy means some dust will have settled."
No matter Daili Jun's complaints, hearing that he could rest made any objections vanish. He attacked the bedroom with gusto, even humming a tune to signal his good mood.
Wang Qiqi started on the living room and bedrooms, but since Han Tao had just moved in, those areas had likely been cleaned already. Moreover, with the doors and windows shut these past few days, the house wasn't that dirty. The real issue was the discovery of quite a few clothes hanging in the shaded area of the balcony, and though the bathroom looked dry, it was undeniably the dirtiest spot. "Does she really think this is a hotel?" Wang Qiqi was immensely grateful it was summer; had it been winter, she truly didn't know what she would have done.
After finishing the cleaning everywhere except the bedroom, Wang Qiqi realized that someone hadn't emerged from the room yet. "Could this kid be slacking off?" It shouldn't take that long to clean a single bedroom.
Emerging from the bathroom, Wang Qiqi found the bedroom door closed. Pushing it open, she felt both annoyed and amused. The guy had truly listened—stretched out flat on the bed, sleeping soundly. Wang Qiqi looked at Daili Jun, who was covered only by a small towel blanket while the air conditioning was set to a very low temperature. She turned, found a thin quilt in the nearby wardrobe, and covered him with it. Throughout the entire process, the man hadn't stirred. "A real pig. Sleep, sleep. Eat and sleep, sleep and eat, just like some other creatures."
Watching the soundly sleeping Daili Jun, Wang Qiqi could only turn and leave the room. He was allowed to rest, but she still had the big grocery run ahead, otherwise, they wouldn't even have noodles for dinner tonight.
Wang Qiqi wheeled her ride out of the garage and slowly pedaled toward the supermarket. "So tired, so hot." Before even leaving the complex, Wang Qiqi felt like she couldn't breathe. It was exhaustion, but more so, the intense sunlight was making her dizzy. "Learning to drive is essential. I must sign up next semester." She had mentioned learning to drive before but always procrastinated.
While Wang Qiqi was doing her big shop at the supermarket, Daili Jun woke up. He rubbed his rumbling stomach and reluctantly dragged himself off the bed. He knew the small towel blanket covering him had been replaced by a thin quilt because Qiqi had helped. Rubbing his eyes, he walked out of the room. "Qiqi, Qiqi. Is there anything to eat in the house?" He thought the probability was low; Han Tao practically treated the company as his home, so how could there be food? Even if there was, it would probably be in the fridge waiting to expire.
The only reply was an empty echo. "Where did Qiqi go?" Daili Jun searched everywhere but couldn't find her. Finally, he spotted a note on the dining table. "Went to the supermarket. Why didn't you call me?"
Daili Jun thought for a moment, then looked out at the scorching sun. "Forget it, I'll just guard the house." Going out in this heat, he'd likely be baked into jerky. Better to stay put, conserve his energy, and ensure he shows up before the boss in top form tomorrow.
Daili Jun dug out his laptop from his suitcase and connected to the network. "I wonder if there's Wi-Fi downstairs. If not, I'll have to come up here every time I want to surf the net?" This would be a real hassle, but running an Ethernet cable would be too much trouble. Besides, saving every penny counted; they were still paying off the mortgage on the commercial property they bought, and Daili Jun didn't want to take more money from home.
Wang Qiqi finished checking out, looking at the large bags. She stared at them, realizing her strength wasn't enough to carry everything back smoothly. In the end, she hailed a cab and brought everything back in stages. "Oh, you're up already? I should have called you," Wang Qiqi said in surprise as she put down the heavy bags, finding the man already settled on the sofa, playing on his computer.
"Even if you had called, I wouldn't have been free. Your man was online, and the moment he saw me, he instantly sent over the files," Daili Jun thought. He had only meant to relax and leave a message for his girlfriend about his recent status since she wasn't online, but before he could finish drafting the message, Han Tao caught him. "Oh, I told Han Tao you went grocery shopping. He said he might have to work overtime today and won't be back for dinner."
Wang Qiqi had planned a lavish dinner, but hearing that Han Tao might not return dampened her mood slightly. "Then, how about one meat dish, one vegetable dish, and a soup for tonight?"
Daili Jun was dumbfounded. He stared blankly at Wang Qiqi. "Didn't you say you were going to cook something good today?" Back in Boston, Wang Qiqi and the others had been busy shopping, so the meals had been rather meager. But Qiqi had promised big feasts once they returned. To think their very first meal here would be this simple? The treatment was terrible. "Qiqi, this isn't right. You can't just settle for so little just because your man is working late and not coming home for dinner. Remember, Han Tao is coming back tonight. He said he'd save some room." Worried Wang Qiqi wouldn't believe him, Daili Jun urged her to look at the chat interface.
Wang Qiqi walked over and saw it was true. "Then I'll reconsider the menu." If her man was coming back, the meal couldn't be subpar. The originally planned menu could be reinstated. Daili Jun, listening to Wang Qiqi rapidly discuss the evening menu, kept swallowing, immensely anticipating dinner.
"Qiqi, you're being too much. When your man isn't coming back, it's three dishes. But when your man is coming back later, it instantly jumps to eight dishes and a soup. You…" Although this standard was definitely a feast, Daili Jun felt a pang of sadness. "Qiqi, I'm a guest here. How can you treat guests this way?"
Wang Qiqi rolled her eyes at him. "Dinner will be two dishes and a soup. The eight dishes and soup are for nourishing my man. What do you need nourishing for? Don't forget Feng Xuanxiang treated you to several good meals."
"That was compensation for Feng Xuanxiang bullying me," Daili Jun retorted irritably. "By the way, Qiqi, where did you put the film? I couldn't find it."
"I asked Shi Man to keep it safe." Wang Qiqi wouldn't tell the truth, so she pinned it on Shi Man. After all, Daili Jun didn't have the guts to go ask Shi Man to verify it.
With the film at Shi Man’s place, Daili Jun cast a suspicious glance at Wang Qiqi. He felt such an important item shouldn't be left with Shi Man, but perhaps it was possible, given their close friendship and the fact that they were dealing with him. "Sigh, I think that film roll should just be destroyed."
"Why destroy such good pictures? You silly man, haven't you noticed your physique is quite good?" Wang Qiqi advised kindly. "A memento for youth. I was even planning to do an art photoshoot." To capture her good figure while she was young, to look back in her old age and remember the time when her body was so fine and her skin so smooth.
Art photoshoot? The drink Daili Jun had just taken into his mouth immediately sprayed out, coating the computer screen. He frantically grabbed tissues to wipe it off, instinctively hitting the power button on the computer in his haste. In such an emergency, he wouldn't consider the potential damage to the machine. Fortunately, he noticed his aim was slightly off, or the spray would have hit the keyboard instead of the screen.
"Heavens, you're being dramatic. You don't have to react so strongly," Wang Qiqi thought. While the suggestion was certainly shocking, it wasn't inherently
