Wang Maocai, a farmer from Boyi Township, went to his fields at dawn to work. By the edge of the field, he found a small child, about four or five years old, with a remarkably handsome face and a quick wit.
He took the child home and raised him as his adopted son.
The boy was exceptionally bright. Four or five years later, a certain monk came to the house seeking alms.
Upon seeing the monk, the child was greatly startled, fled in fear, and vanished in an instant.
The monk told the farmer, "This child is one of the five hundred young dragons from the pond at Mount Hua. He has slipped away secretly, and I must take him back."
As he spoke, he took out a begging bowl, filled it with clear water, and in the water, a white serpent appeared, winding its way around.
The monk tucked the bowl into his sleeve, bid farewell, and departed.
