A carter was straining to push his loaded cart up a slope when, without warning, a wild wolf darted out from nowhere and clamped its jaws onto his rear end, refusing to let go. The carter wanted to drop his hands and chase the wolf away, yet he feared the cart would overturn and crush him beneath its weight. He had no choice but to endure the pain and keep pushing. By the time he reached the crest of the hill, the wolf had torn away a piece of his flesh and vanished without a trace.

This wolf, having tasted the carter’s flesh while he was helpless, could certainly be deemed the height of cunning.
