Upon the perilous cliffs of Linjiang, Guangdong, the terrain was severe, and often did ingot-shaped stones sprout directly from the rock face. Below, the waves churned violently, making the shore impossible for ships to approach. Some would moor their vessels in the river's center, striking the ingots with oars, only to find them utterly unmoving; yet, if a person was truly destined for fortune, a mere touch would suffice, and the ingot would detach itself and fall. In the span of a glance backward, new ingots would have already pushed forth.
