A villager in Qingzhou, past fifty, took a young woman as his concubine. His two sons, fearing that a pregnancy by the stepmother would cause them to lose favor, seized the opportunity when their father was deeply drunk and secretly castrated him, subsequently applying some medicinal powder to the wound.

The father, realizing what had happened, feigned illness, too ashamed to mention the true cause.

On one such day, the father went into the sleeping chamber, and suddenly the wound ruptured, bleeding profusely, and he swiftly expired.

The stepmother, learning of the incident, brought the two sons before the magistrate. Under interrogation, they confessed everything truthfully.

The magistrate sighed deeply, lamenting, "To think that I have become the 'Shanfu Zai'!" He ordered the two sons to be executed.
