A woodcutter made his way to the market to sell his fuel, and as dusk settled, he began the long trek home carrying his shoulder pole.
Suddenly, the pole grew impossibly heavy. He glanced back only to see a headless corpse hanging from it.
The woodcutter gasped in terror, quickly tossing the body onto the ground. Snatching up his pole, he began swinging it wildly. A puff of pale smoke rose from the earth, and in the blink of an eye, the corpse had vanished without a trace.
His heart pounding with dread, the woodcutter hurried along until he reached a clearing where several local farmers were lighting torches, searching the area intently.
Approaching them to inquire, he heard them say, "Just now, while we were sitting here chatting, a human head suddenly dropped from the sky. It burrowed straight into the earth and disappeared in an instant. We’ve been searching for ages and haven't found a thing."
So, where had the head gone?
Later, someone walked through the streets carrying a bamboo basket. Inside the basket, a human head had materialized out of nowhere. When the basket was tipped over, the head gave a sudden hop and instantly disappeared from sight.
