A certain man in Tianjin made his living by hunting. One day, he managed to capture a female goose and happily carried it home.
The male goose, upon seeing his wife captured, cried out in sorrow, circling and soaring overhead, trailing the hunter relentlessly, unwilling to leave his side.
The next day, when the hunter set out early, the male goose suddenly swooped down to his feet, spitting out half a piece of gold. The hunter laughed, "Little fellow, are you trying to buy back your wife with silver? Very well, as you wish."
Accepting the silver, he weighed it in his hand—it amounted to a full two liang and six qian. Overjoyed, he immediately released the female goose.
The pair of geese, reunited after their ordeal, were overcome with joy, flapping their wings and soaring into the sky.
