A merchant was navigating the South Sea in a small boat around midnight when a monstrous creature surfaced, half its colossal body breaking the water, immense as a mountain range.

Its eyes were twin suns, blazing forth such intense radiance that the surrounding sea and night sky were illuminated as if by day.

After a prolonged silence, the beast sank back into the depths, never to be seen again.

Later, when the merchant arrived in Fujian, he recounted the event to the local villagers, who all nodded knowingly, saying, "We, too, have witnessed this strange phenomenon—the sudden flashing and fading of light upon the sea; truly marvelous."

Hearing this, the merchant was utterly flabbergasted, pondering, "Fujian is certainly a thousand miles or more from the South Sea. What kind of entity could possess such terrifying power?" He racked his brain until his thoughts blurred, yet found no answer.
