Wang Zhuo didn't understand Cheng Wang's words and quickly pressed: "Explain yourself clearly, who's retaliating against you, what do you mean 'got jabbed'?"
"Oh, Boss, it's too complicated to explain over the phone!" Cheng Wang sounded rushed. "I'm taking Haozi to the hospital right now. I suspect that guy injected him with HIV-tainted blood!"
"What?!" Wang Zhuo was instantly aghast, leaping to his feet. "Which hospital are you at? I'll be right there!"
By the time they rushed to Jiangzhou Fourth People's Hospital, half an hour had passed. Wang Zhuo had only brought Gan Shuang with him. She was not only Wang Zhuo's girlfriend but also Sun Donghao's classmate for all three years of high school, so it was only right and proper for her to come.
On the way, they had already learned the general sequence of events over the phone. Because Gan Shuang was present, Cheng Wang had avoided mentioning the root cause of the incident. He only said that the attacker had called him and Sun Donghao out, then suddenly attacked them, first knocking them both to the ground before pulling a syringe full of dark red blood from his pocket and viciously plunging it into Sun Donghao's thigh, injecting more than half of the contents.
They arrived at the ward filled with anxiety. Sun Donghao lay pale as a sheet on the hospital bed, clearly terrified. Cheng Wang, with a bruise blooming on his face, stood up quickly from a nearby chair when he saw Wang Zhuo and Gan Shuang enter.
"What did the doctor say?" Wang Zhuo asked in a low voice.
Cheng Gang hastily replied, "The doctor said this constitutes a high-risk exposure. Infection tests can only be done earliest in two weeks."
Wang Zhuo immediately followed up, "Was the wound treated? Was a blood sample taken for testing?" Cheng Gang first nodded, then vigorously shook his head. "It was treated, but I don't know about the blood sample."
Wang Zhuo pushed him aside, moving two steps to the bedside. He held a hand up near Sun Donghao, signaling him to stay quiet, then flipped back the sheet, his brow furrowed as he intently examined the injury on his thigh.
Donghao’s wound was merely a slightly torn puncture, located centrally on the back of his left thigh. It had already been sterilized by the doctor, smeared with anti-inflammatory topical medication, and covered with gauze.
For such a minor wound, whether to stitch it or not would normally be inconsequential; conventionally, the hospital would stitch it three to five times, netting an extra hundred-plus in treatment fees. But since Donghao had been jabbed with a suspected HIV source, what doctor would risk taking on that meager fee?
His X-Ray Vision instantly pierced through the gauze and Donghao’s skin, enveloping the area around the wound. Wang Zhuo stared intently, his brow never relaxing.
Looking up at Sun Donghao, Wang Zhuo asked gravely, "How did the doctor handle it?" "They used a suction device for a long time, and a lot of blood drained out," Sun Donghao stammered nervously. "Boss, if that syringe really contained HIV blood, what are my chances of infection?" Wang Zhuo shook his head without answering, stood up, and instructed Cheng Yue and Gan Shuang, "You two wait here. I'm going to find the doctor."
Leaving the ward, he stepped a few paces away, stopped, and activated his X-Ray Vision, instantly sweeping over the entire hospital building. He quickly located the laboratory tucked away in a corner on the fifth floor, where he spotted a suction device that hadn't yet been cleaned and a blood-stained disposable plastic cup discarded in a nearby trash receptacle.
Undoubtedly, the plastic cup contained the blood drawn from Donghao’s thigh not long ago; a significant portion of it had already coagulated, with some liquid remaining at the bottom of the cup.
Wang Zhuo could no longer find any external blood source on Sun Donghao. Given that over forty minutes had passed since the injection and the wound had already been treated by the doctor, even if foreign blood were present, it would have already circulated throughout his system. Even with X-Ray Vision, locating those specific foreign blood traces would be like finding a needle in a haystack. Therefore, the best course was to locate this extracted blood.
He instantly cranked the power of his X-Ray Vision to maximum. The tiny pool of blood remaining at the bottom of the cup magnified into a vast ocean. Countless components like red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets ballooned to the size of basketballs and ping-pong balls!
Wang Zhuo unhesitatingly disregarded the extraneous cells and focused on the cells susceptible to HIV invasion—T4 lymphocytes, monocyte-macrophages, dendritic cells, etc.—since not every cell would be infected, and the source contained both Sun Donghao’s blood and the injected material. He scrutinized everything meticulously, not allowing himself to relax simply because several consecutive cells showed no sign of the HIV virus.
The HIV virus has a diameter of about 120 nanometers, roughly one-fiftieth the size of a red blood cell. If Wang Zhuo had only developed his Dynasty Limitless Power recently, he would have been completely unable to detect a viral body of this size, merely sighing in frustration. But through the training gained in countless subsequent research endeavors, he could now magnify a red blood cell to the size of a room, making the HIV virus equivalent in size to a desk within it.
Blood flows inside the body. When X-Ray Vision magnified the cells to a certain extent, their movement speed exceeded that of a car traveling at 500 kilometers per hour; they vanished from sight in the blink of an eye. This was where Wang Zhuo's Holographic Memory Imaging system proved invaluable. He could lock down a defined area, instantly preserving the captured imagery in his mind, allowing him to analyze it comprehensively to glean the required information.
Two minutes passed. For others, this was a brief moment, but for Wang Zhuo, whose special abilities were pushed to their limit and whose brain was operating at an overclocked speed, it felt equivalent to completing a grueling 800-meter sprint; his entire body felt exhausted.
Sun Donghao hadn't gotten lucky. In that cup of nearly solidified blood, Wang Zhuo finally discovered a macrophage carrying the HIV virus. The blood from that syringe had indeed come from an AIDS patient.
Patting his forehead, Wang Zhuo stomped his foot in frustration and turned back to the ward.
Seeing him enter, Gan Shuang asked with concern, "Wang Zhuo, what did the doctor say?"
"I didn't see the doctor," Wang Zhuo shook his head. "I made a few calls and asked some relevant experts about Haozi's situation."
Cheng Gang immediately asked, "What did the experts say?" Wang Zhuo glanced at the listless Sun Donghao on the bed and managed a wry smile. "No results yet. The earliest infection test results will be in two weeks. If it shows up then, he’s hit. If not, there’s another test after four weeks, which uses new technology for final confirmation."
Gan Shuang frowned and asked, "So if the doctor can't detect the virus in the blood sample just drawn, then he's fine, right?"
"No, that's not guaranteed," Wang Zhuo stated firmly. "In the time between Haozi arriving at the hospital and now, the injected blood has been diluted by his own circulation. It’s possible the concentration is too low to be detected by the hospital labs. Regardless of their findings, he is considered a high-risk individual for the next four weeks." Hearing this, Sun Donghao looked pitifully close to tears again. The last time he cried was over breaking up with Nan Bing; this time the reason was far more direct—he was terrified!
"Pull yourself together. Even if that syringe contained viral blood, the chance of infection isn't one hundred percent," Wang Zhuo encouraged him. "Being scared won't help. Be brave, be a man!" Sun Donghao managed a weak smile that looked worse than crying. Wang Zhuo was helpless against his disposition, so he told Gan Shuang, "Stay and keep him company. Cheng Wang and I need to step out for a minute."
The two men went into the hallway. Wang Zhuo asked irritably, "Who hates you guys enough to do this? Tell me exactly what happened!"
"It’s all because of that business with Haozi and Nan Bing," Cheng Wang said with a grimace. "Remember that guy Nan Bing was with after she broke up with Haozi, the one who looked like Toshiro Dm?"
"He did this?" Wang Zhuo’s eyebrows sharpened, his tone chillingly murderous.
"Not him directly, but it’s related," Cheng Wang explained. "After Haozi and Nan Bing split, that guy fled Jiangzhou and went into hiding. But he came back later. Haozi, Fatty Dragon, and two police officers under your friend Yuanye went and beat him up."
Wang Zhuo nodded. "I know about that. Get to the point."
"After the beating, Haozi treated us—a full sauna and massage package. That’s when the incident happened," Cheng Wang continued. "One of Yuanye's officers, a guy named Guan Huijun, found out he was infected with AIDS. He’s already confronted Haozi twice about it."
Wang Zhuo was speechless, responding with ironic exasperation, "How could he be sure it was from that time?"
"He found out during his company’s bi-annual physical exam. He only had that one high-risk encounter within the last six months. His physical half a year ago was completely normal." Cheng Wang said gloomily, "His wife was tested too—negative. She's not a carrier." Wang Zhuo was momentarily silenced; if this Guan Huijun wasn't lying, then he was truly unlucky...
"So he’s taking revenge on Haozi? Doesn't he care about his job?"
"What job is there to care about?" Cheng Wang spread his hands. "He was just a temporary worker—temporary for ten years without ever getting permanent status. As soon as he was diagnosed, he was kicked out!"
"This is just one disaster after another!" Wang Zhuo said irritably. "When something this serious happened, why didn't you tell me?"
"How could we have known he'd retaliate against Haozi like this?" Cheng Gang cried mournfully. "He demanded five million from Haozi. Haozi didn't have that kind of money, and they were haggling over the price when this suddenly happened."
"Just five damn million..." Wang Zhuo finally swore, furious. He desperately wanted to kick both these dimwitted kids. Now it wasn't about the money anymore; if Haozi got infected with HOV, his life would be utterly ruined!
Cheng Gang asked sheepishly, "Boss, if that syringe contained Guan Huijun’s blood, what are Haozi’s chances of infection?"
"Definitely higher than you two sleeping around ten times without a condom!" Wang Zhuo glared at him, speaking angrily. "Report it. This Guan Huijun is a dangerous element. Before you catch him, you need to go hide out somewhere for a few days too!"
