A recommendation from Hong Chang: There’s a new novel by an industrial tycoon that’s quite good lately; readers who enjoy contemporary agrarian/farming genres might want to take a look. This is purely a recommendation; I don't know the author.
Science has proven that species automatically adapt to their environment to ensure survival and reproduction.
Even if Wang Zhuo hadn't studied medicine, he would understand this principle, considering he had received a university education—though his college entrance exam was achieved entirely through cheating.
In the film Jurassic Park, the creators presented audiences with this piece of science fiction: all the dinosaurs in the park were female, but because frog gene sequences were borrowed when repairing the dinosaur DNA, they retained some of the frogs' functions, such as sex change!
Thus, while all the adult dinosaurs were female, some individuals secretly transformed into males, leading to an explosion in the dinosaur population!
Life finds a way—this is the most crucial line in Jurassic Park. Because of this phrase, this work of science fiction exists.
In contemporary society, people notice that twins seem to be appearing more frequently around them. Why is this? The one-child policy deserves credit. When the most sacred duty of continuing the lineage is constrained and limited by external forces, then "life finds a way"—some dinosaurs secretly changed from male to female, and some people quietly gave birth to twins.
This is a phenomenon beyond individual will, a highly complex academic problem involving biology, sociology, genetics, genomics, and numerous other intricate disciplines, which current scientific levels are still far from being able to answer.
Perhaps the abundance of dazzling beauties (Ying Ying Yan Yan) is a product born from this survival environment. However, one thing must be affirmed: their outward appearance is decidedly "uniquely blessed." As discussed earlier, choosing one's birth circumstances is also a skill. Some people are born into powerful, aristocratic families, like Ma Qiang or the Tao brothers; others are born with exquisite looks, like Ning Yao or Bai Lu. These individuals possess innate privileges that others can only envy.
Of course, there are those who receive the utmost affection from all quarters, like Yang Feng, who is both handsome and well-born. Yang Ru is naturally one such example. Unfortunately for them, they encountered someone like Wang Zhuo, making them negative case studies...
Ying Ying and Yan Yan were unluckily born into poverty, and their parents favored sons, viewing them as burdens. But fortunately, fate granted them perfect looks, and being twins meant their advantage was compounded—a silver lining amidst misfortune.
...
As evening approached, Fu Xinran was preparing to leave work for the day when her boss, whom she rarely saw, suddenly called.
"Where did you go this afternoon?" Fu Xinran asked curiously.
Wang Zhuo forced a dry chuckle. He thought to himself: I haven't gone anywhere, just near the company. I just settled a score with an enemy through a 'melee,' and now I feel lighter by a few ounces!
But of course, he couldn't tell Fu Xinran about such things. So, he just laughed it off and said, "I reserved a table at Jipin Yaju. Are you still at the office? Hurry and come eat."
Jipin Yaju was a small, upscale, European-style restaurant in the BD business district. Wang Zhuo actually knew Fu Xinran was still at the office; even though she was over two kilometers away, he adjusted his clairvoyance to telephoto lens and looked towards the office, so he could see her every move.
A little over ten minutes later, Fu Xinran arrived at Jipin Yaju. As she stepped into the quietly elegant private room, she stopped in surprise.
It was a small four-seater private room. Wang Zhuo was seated at one end of the table. At the other end sat a pair of twin girls identical in appearance and dress, as pure and charming as a pair of lovely dolls. The two sisters lifted their faces to look at her simultaneously, as if they had just been poured from the same mold—it was like looking at one person duplicated in a mirror!
"Dazzled, aren't you?" Wang Zhuo chuckled, saying, "Take a seat first. Let me introduce you."
After Fu Xinran sat down, Wang Zhuo introduced them, "These are my newly adopted goddaughters. This is Da Qiu, and this is Xiao Qiu. Collectively, you can just call them Qiu Qiu."
Rumble... Fu Xinran felt like she was burned on the outside and tender on the inside—it was utterly shocking. Wang Zhuo had adopted goddaughters? What kind of stunt was this?!
Although the twins appeared well-developed, their unlined, youthful faces suggested they were around sixteen or seventeen. But how old was Wang Zhuo this year? To be someone's godfather? Was it really necessary to be so exaggerated? Adopting a god-sister would have made more sense!
"These are the people I told you about earlier, Miss Fu Xinran, your godfather's secretary." Wang Zhuo gestured carelessly toward Ying Ying and Yan Yan, pointing at Fu Xinran, "You two can call her Sister Xinran."
The two girls immediately called out in crisp, synchronized voices, "Sister Xinran!" Fu Xinran managed a wry smile and nodded at them, then turned to Wang Zhuo, asking, "What is the meaning of all this?"
Wang Zhuo pressed the service intercom button on the table, ordered the waiter to "bring the dishes," and then smiled at her, "Do you know Yang Ru, the little princess of the Yang family in the Capital? Qiu Qiu are a gift she just gave me."
Yang Ru? Fu Xinran was slightly stunned. Of course, she knew of this woman. Wasn't Wang Zhuo currently battling the Yang family behind her? How could she suddenly give Wang Zhuo a gift, and two living people at that?
Seeing her look utterly confused, Wang Zhuo smiled smugly. Watching for the waiter bringing the food, he concisely explained the general situation.
When he got to the part where Yang Ru "catered to his tastes," knowing he was lustful and fond of beautiful women, she sent over a pair of twins as a gift, Ying Ying and Yan Yan lowered their heads, stifling giggles, while Fu Xinran secretly pinched his thigh under the table.
In Fu Xinran's view, Ying Ying and Yan Yan were still children. Wang Zhuo shamelessly spoke such sordid words in front of them; his thick skin was truly astounding!
After the Lunar New Year, she would be twenty-eight by traditional counting, exactly one zodiac cycle older than Ying Ying and Yan Yan. Wang Zhuo appreciated beauty based purely on looks, not age; she certainly didn't possess that kind of insight or maturity.
By the time Wang Zhuo finished his rambling account, the food had arrived. Fu Xinran asked him testily, "She dared to give them, and you dared to accept them? What about your acquisition plan for Tongyuan?"
"Everything is proceeding according to plan," Wang Zhuo replied with a faint smile. "Accepting this grand gift is merely a demonstration of my attitude, a prerequisite for the Yang family to cooperate obediently."
Fu Xinran nodded slightly, re-examining the "Qiu Qiu" sisters, and shook her head with a wry smile. "I truly don't know where she found them. In all my life, I've never seen such beautiful twins."
Ying Ying and Yan Yan had long since discerned that the relationship between Fu Xinran and Wang Zhuo was far more than just boss and secretary. Judging by the way Wang Zhuo treated Yang Ru that afternoon, having such an icy, aloof female secretary suggested there was definitely a romantic dimension to their relationship.
Pleased by Fu Xinran's compliment, the sisters immediately reciprocated, praising Fu Xinran for being beautiful, gorgeous, mature, and steady. The vocabulary they commanded was limited, but their words came straight from the heart, leaving Fu Xinran both amused and exasperated.
"Why do you call them Qiu Qiu? That name is so strange," Fu Xinran asked Wang Zhuo curiously.
Ying Ying chimed in sweetly, "Sister Xinran, our surname is Chou; Godfather didn't want us to take his."
"Chou? Which Chou?" Fu Xinran asked in surprise. "The Chou from Qiu Qianchi, or the one with the radical for 'single person' plus the character for 'nine'?"
People with culture truly have discerning knowledge! Ying Ying and Yan Yan nodded repeatedly: "It’s the one with the single person radical plus nine."
Fu Xinran then understood. No wonder Wang Zhuo called them Da Qiu and Xiao Qiu—that was the reason.
"What do you plan to do with them?" Fu Xinran turned the question back to Wang Zhuo.
"They call me Godfather, don't you already know my plans?" Wang Zhuo said while signaling everyone to start eating and popping a piece of crab meat into his mouth. "First, find a vocal coach to teach them singing, then have my father write a script, and let them film an idol drama."
It was indeed the whole entertainment industry routine... Fu Xinran was left speechless and amused, taking a spoonful of egg drop soup. Following his lead, she said, "Are you planning for them to sing the theme song themselves, and have Ning Yao direct it, perhaps?"
Wang Zhuo responded with a pleased grunt. Back in the day, he too had a phase where he admired movie stars, but growing up, he realized that was just packaging designed to deceive naive young men and women. Even Brother Jackie Chan kept his marriage secret while having a love affair outside and fathering a 'Little Dragon Girl.' Now, he was finally going to profane the dreams of little girls—Your dream idol is my goddaughter, you know!
Why do so many wealthy and powerful men like to get involved with female celebrities? Wang Zhuo deeply understood this! Every time he shared intimacy with Ning Yao, the thought that this woman beneath him was the superstar that millions of men dreamed of but could never have ignited his lust and sent his primal urges soaring. Now, he would have another capital for boasting: Little kids, your dream girl is my goddaughter, yo!
The thought itself was exhilarating, but Fu Xinran had never considered things from such a somewhat despicable angle, so she was unaware of Wang Zhuo's perverse intentions.
Of course, if it had been Fei Long or Cheng Gang or Zhou Huai’an, they would have instantly guessed Wang Zhuo's scheme. Even someone like Sun Donghao or Geng Bin could figure it out. Wang Zhuo’s arrangement satisfied both Ying Ying and Yan Yan’s wishes and fed his vanity—a perfect illustration of the famous idiom, "killing two birds with one stone."
"Ning Yao?!"
After hearing Fu Xinran's words, Ying Ying and Yan Yan both froze, then asked with sudden excitement, "Godfather, is the Ning Yao Sister Xinran mentioned the award-winning actress who starred in Forever On The Road to Divorce and later filmed Struggle?"
"Who else would it be," Wang Zhuo grinned. "Of course, it's her. The script for Struggle was principally created by your God-Grandfather."
Fu Xinran nearly spat out her drink. The title "God-Grandfather" made her burst into laughter. She shot Wang Zhuo a sharp glare, thinking, Can you stop being so ridiculous while we're eating!
The eyes of the twin girls immediately lit up—brilliantly! Having worked in performance, they naturally understood the weight a director and screenwriter held in a film or television production. If they could truly have a script tailor-made for them by their "God-Grandfather" and then be directed by the multi-award-winning Ning Yao, it would be hard not to become famous! Even leaping to A-list stardom wouldn't be out of reach!
