On the twenty-eighth day of the ninth month in the fourth year of the Kangxi reign, he beat his wife, Madam Li, to death.

Local officials reported the matter to Guangping Prefecture, and his superiors ordered the perpetrator to be apprehended and handed over to the magistrate of Yongnian County for trial.

As Li Sijian was being escorted to the yamen, he suddenly bolted as they passed a butcher's stall, snatched a cleaver, rushed into the City God Temple, mounted the stage, and knelt before the idol.

He muttered to himself, "The deities blame me for listening to villains, for slandering people in the township, and punish me by cutting off my ear."

Upon finishing his speech, he brought the blade down and severed his left ear, tossing it onto the stage floor.

He continued, "The deities blame me for defrauding people of their silver, and punish me by chopping off a finger."

He then proceeded to hack off his left index finger.

Following this, he declared, "The deities blame me for illicitly consorting with women, and punish me by castrating myself."

With that, he slashed himself with the knife, losing consciousness and falling down dead.

Governor Zhu Yunmen reported this case to the Imperial Court, requesting the stripping of Li Sijian's Juren title and accountability for his actions. An imperial decree had already been approved; however, by that time, Li Sijian had already suffered the consequences of his own deeds, mutilating his body before his soul departed to the underworld.
