A dragon, having fallen to earth in a village in the North Direct Realm, lumbered awkwardly and squeezed into the residence of a local official or gentleman. The gate, four meters wide, barely accommodated the massive creature’s passage. Once inside, the family, paralyzed by fear, scattered in panic. From the upper floor, a chaotic clamor erupted as muskets and cannons fired, all aimed at the giant reptile. Wounded and in pain, the dragon slowly retreated.
Before the gate lay a muddy depression, less than a foot deep. The dragon coiled itself within, tossing and turning, coating its entire body in filth. It struggled fiercely, managing to leap several feet into the air before crashing back down. It remained in the stagnant water for three days, flies swarming its scales. Suddenly, a torrential rain began, accompanied by a deafening thunderclap, and the dragon ascended upon the clouds and vanished.

Fangsheng and his friend climbed Bull Mountain and entered a temple for a visit. They suddenly noticed a yellow brick falling from a wooden rafter; coiled around the brick was a small snake, thin as an earthworm. In the blink of an eye, it circled once, growing as thick as a thumb; with another rotation, it was as wide as a belt. Fangsheng was utterly astonished, realizing the little snake must be a descending dragon. He quickly departed with his friend. Just as they reached the mountainside, they heard a tremendous, earth-shaking roar from within the temple—roof tiles scattered, and black clouds gathered overhead like a canopy. A gigantic dragon threaded its way through the clouds, then instantly disappeared.

In a small village near Zhangqiu, a peasant woman was out in the wilderness when a powerful gale blew up, whipping dust and sand into her face. When the grit blew into her eye, she felt an unbearable itching and stinging, as if pierced by needles. Back home, rubbing and blowing did nothing to alleviate the condition. Her family pried open her eyelid for a closer look; the pupil appeared normal, but a thin, red line snaked across the white of her eye, winding like a worm. Someone whispered, "That is a Stinging Dragon." Hearing this, the peasant woman was filled with dread, resigning herself to death. Three months later, a fierce downpour struck, accompanied by tremendous thunder, and the Stinging Dragon burst forth from her eye and flew away, leaving the woman completely unharmed.
