The Zhu Polong is native to Jiangxi province; it resembles a dragon but is short, capable of horizontal flight, and often haunts riverbanks, preying on geese and ducks.
If any villagers managed to capture a Zhu Polong in those days, they would generally slaughter it and sell the meat exclusively to the Chen and Ke families. Both families claimed descent from Chen Youliang and had a generations-old affinity for consuming Polong meat; no other clans dared to eat it.
A certain visitor from Jiangxi, traveling through Zhejiang, went to the trouble of capturing a Zhu Polong and tying it securely aboard his vessel. When the boat docked by the Qiantang River, the creature unexpectedly tore free of its bonds and leaped violently into the river's center. Moments later, the waves surged into a terrifying tumult, the boat was wrecked, and all hands were lost.
