The night passed without incident, leading to the next day.
Two days had already passed since the Holy Grail War began. Although the situation seemed relatively optimistic, Rin was growing anxious. This was understandable; after all, her father had died in a previous Holy Grail War. To prevent such a tragedy from recurring, she certainly couldn't afford to be complacent.
Lin Luo understood her feelings, but the difficulty lay in ensuring Tokiomi Tohsaka was "safely" knocked out of the Holy Grail War. His Servant was the King of Heroes, and that little girl's mind was unstable, prone to madness at any moment, becoming even more perverse when unhinged. The only easy way out would be if Tokiomi himself willingly gave up his Command Spells, but that was even less realistic. Tokiomi had pursued the Root his entire life and now held the trump card that was the King of Heroes—how could he possibly let go?
There is an old saying: one won't shed tears until they see the coffin. Tokiomi Tohsaka wouldn't shed tears even upon seeing one.
However, seeing Rin become increasingly distressed, Lin Luo couldn't bear it. Finally, he made a proposal: Rin should take Lili, Mugino, Shokuhou, and little Ber—five people in total—to monitor the movements of Tokiomi Tohsaka and Kirei Kotomine. If an opportunity arose, Shokuhou should attempt mental control over Tokiomi, forcing him to expend all his Command Spells, which would solve everything.
With Lili and Mugino present, Lin Luo was quite confident in their safety, and coupled with little Ber’s reconnaissance and stealth capabilities, even the King of Heroes might not evade her sight. Of course, unless absolutely necessary, Lin Luo sternly warned them against direct engagement with the King of Heroes.
Rin naturally had no objections to this arrangement, nor did the others have a reason to oppose it. After Lin Luo gave his final, meticulous instructions, the five departed the inn to act together, leaving only him, Mikoto, Leys, and Nero behind.
For the remainder of the afternoon, the four of them did not stay cooped up in the room, nor did they prepare for battle. Instead, they went shopping in Fuyuki City.
This wasn't to say Lin Luo had absolute confidence in winning the future battles; it was just that balancing work and rest and occasionally changing one's mood was beneficial. Furthermore, delaying the duration of the Holy Grail War was precisely what he hoped for, so there was no reason to actively seek confrontation.
Thus, the four individuals mingled and played on the streets like ordinary people. Mikoto adapted well to this lifestyle. Although Nero was an Emperor, such experiences were clearly rare for her in the past, making everything feel fresh. Even Leys, who generally disliked crowds, frequently showed smiles, appearing quite happy.
However, this carefree existence couldn't last long. As night descended, an incident finally occurred—an unusually intense fluctuation of magical energy emanating from the vicinity of a certain coastline.
"This magical phenomenon is unusual," Nero stated in a deep voice, turning her gaze toward the coastal area in the distance.
"Mm, at this hour, whoever is making a move like this must be Caster. It seems he's been pushed into a corner," Lin Luo said, following the direction of the magical wave. Though it was night, Lin Luo could still see a strange, thick fog shrouding the distant sky—definitely not something naturally formed.
"That guy is that mass murderer! We absolutely cannot let him get away!" Mikoto gritted her teeth, her face filled with rage as she spoke. Whether from what she heard from Lin Luo or what she witnessed firsthand, she could never forgive a person like that.
"Shall we go take a look?" Nero asked with a playful smile.
"Of course we should... Huh?" As Lin Luo spoke, he suddenly felt someone tugging at his sleeve. He looked down to see Leys. "What is it, Leys?"
"It feels... bad," Leys pointed toward the area shrouded in fog and shook her head.
"Is that so? It even affects you? Don't worry about it; he's just a minor character, it won't be a problem," Lin Luo said with a comforting smile.
"Mm."
"Then let's go exorcise this demon; though, we probably won't even be needed."
...
Near the area blanketed in dense fog, a silver-white Mercedes Benz sped along a narrow and rugged mountain village road at a speed unimaginable to ordinary people—a speed that defied common sense and had broken the constraints of physical law.
Upon entering the riverside avenue, the silver-white car executed a spectacular, super-gorgeous 180-degree drift. Then, before the car had even completely stopped, the door was flung open, and a petite figure in blue and white leaped out, sprinting toward the opposite embankment.
This person was none other than the King of Knights who, bound by her ideals, became a Heroic Spirit to participate in the Holy Grail War: Artoria (Don't fret; in the original work, my King did indeed drive a Benz, and with great skill, somewhere between 'legendary' and 'mythical').
"It is you, as expected." Standing on the dam, the knightly maiden clad in blue and white armor gazed with hatred and loathing at the Magus standing calmly in the center of the river, two hundred meters wide. However, the maiden dared not let her guard down, for beneath the water surface where the opponent stood, countless terrifying, monstrous shadows had gathered—undoubtedly the horde of demons summoned by Caster.
"Welcome, Saint. It is my supreme honor to see you again," the figure bowed obsequiously to the maiden. However, such a gesture gained no favor from her; instead, endless fury ignited in her gem-like pupils.
"Unrepentant demonic heretic, what new trick are you planning tonight?"
"I apologize, Jeanne. You are not the guest of honor at tonight's banquet," the figure replied with a supremely wicked smile, utterly crazed. "However, if you deign to grace us with your presence, I would be overjoyed. Gilles de Rais is unworthy, but I have prepared a feast of death and corruption. Please enjoy it to the fullest..."
Roaring with laughter, the dark waters beneath his feet began to churn, and the countless demons gathered at the summoner's feet simultaneously shot out countless tentacles, engulfing Caster, who stood atop them in his cloak. Yet, Caster, completely entwined by the tentacles, felt no pain; instead, he burst into maniacal laughter.
"Now, I shall once again raise the banner of the Savior! Gather around me, you who have been forsaken! Gather around me, you who have been scorned! I shall lead you, I shall command you! The resentment of us, the downtrodden, shall soon be conveyed to God! O Lord in Heaven, I shall wash away the sins! I praise You!"
Immediately after, under the maiden’s trembling and shocked gaze, the mass of disgusting demons, glowing with a chilling cyan light, rapidly fused together, ultimately forming a colossal sea monster, vast as an island, exuding an immense oppressive presence.
The King of Knights' expression changed drastically, and Irisviel, who had accompanied her, also showed fear in her eyes. This transformation completely exceeded their expectations; such a massive sea monster was utterly impossible for one person to defeat, especially since the King of Knights' left hand was injured.
But she couldn't ignore it; otherwise, before morning, every living soul in Fuyuki City would be devoured by this sea monster... She could feel that this monster truly possessed the power to swallow an entire city.
"It seems Caster has utterly failed to grasp the objective of the battle or the meaning of victory. That madman intends to destroy the Holy Grail War itself and annihilate all life in this city."
Hearing the familiar voice, Artoria turned around and saw the King of Conquerors descending from his chariot, accompanied by his Rider.
"Yo, King of Knights," the burly man, who appeared carefree, greeted the maiden provocatively. But this action greatly angered Artoria, especially since he had completely belittled her just last night. "King of Conquerors, you still don't know what's good for you! Did you just come here for a joke?"
"Of course not. We shall observe a truce tonight. If we leave such a behemoth unchecked, I won't be able to fight you with peace of mind. I issued the call just now, and Lancer has responded; he should be arriving shortly," the King of Conquerors said casually, appearing quite relaxed.
"What about the other Servants?" However, the inherently calm Artoria was not as composed as him and asked in a low voice.
"I've already taken care of them—not worth discussing. Archer's arrival is pointless; given that fellow's personality, he wouldn't agree easily. But... I wonder if that one will come?" The King of Conquerors tapped his chin, seemingly in thought.
"Are you referring to..." The maiden's expression shifted slightly; she clearly knew who he meant.
"King of Conquerors, are you speaking of me?" Just then, a very calm voice suddenly sounded near everyone's ears. Looking toward the source of the sound, they saw the eighth Master of this Holy Grail War, Lin Luo, and his Servant, the Roman Emperor Nero.
What surprised them, however, was that the White King of Knights was absent. Instead, there were two little girls and a handsome man wielding twin guns.
"Why are you with them?" The one who asked was Artoria. Although she held some positive feelings toward both groups, their appearance together here felt extremely incongruous to the maiden.
"We encountered them coincidentally on the road; we are all here for this behemoth. Our objectives align," the Saber calmly replied.
"Let's set that aside for now," the King of Conquerors waved his hand, then pointed at Mikoto and Leys, frowning at Lin Luo with a hint of displeasure. "Say, what did you bring these two little girls here for? This place is very dangerous."
In fact, it wasn't just him; everyone nearby felt the same way. Mikoto and Leys clearly showed no magical fluctuations, indicating they were not Magicians. Bringing ordinary people, especially children, onto a battlefield was unacceptable to the three high-minded Heroic Spirits present.
"First, thank you for your concern, King of Conquerors, but..." At this point, Lin Luo smiled mysteriously and did not elaborate further.
Everyone was left baffled.
Just then, Mikoto stared at the monster in the sea and remarked, "Lin Luo, is that the sea monster Caster summoned?"
"Mm."
"Then I..."
"Go ahead and fight, fight however you like," Lin Luo knew what she was about to ask and waved his hand dismissively.
"Thank you so much! I've been holding this in for a long time!" A look of excitement curved the corners of Mikoto's lips, then she stamped her right foot hard on the ground... Crackling sound.
A violent current of electricity exploded from within her body.
The next moment, she took out a gem from her person, her entire body surged with electricity, the gem flew up, and the instant it fell, she thrust out her right thumb... Boom!
A massive orange-red beam of light tore through the night sky—Railgun.
"An Anti-Army Noble Phantasm?" Upon witnessing this scene, everyone was shocked. Undeniably, the power of this beam was equivalent to an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm.
P.S.: Sister Cannon says, I've done enough minor roles; now it's time to show my power. Do you dare disagree?
