With Wang Zhuo’s current net worth, purchasing a private jet for personal use would be no problem at all; he could even register it under the company name, saving a good deal on taxes and procedural hassles. He genuinely intended to buy a plane, but his knowledge of aircraft was still quite limited, and he hadn't had the time recently to attend air shows or review manufacturer promotions, so the idea hadn't materialized yet.
Seeing that the pharmaceutical plant was starting trial production, and the launch of Wangchao Wuliang into the market was imminent, Wang Zhuo felt it was time to bring Ji Guang back—this was a case of "settle domestic matters before dealing with external threats." It would only take him two or three days to visit Guangxi. While Fu Xinran searching for Ji Guang was like searching for a needle in a haystack, and local law enforcement searching for him was all talk and no action, it would be a very simple matter for him to find him personally.
"Secretary, get ready. We’re going on a business trip tomorrow."
"The tickets? They’re already booked. Gan Shuang is preparing the materials; you don't need to worry about that. Just meet me tomorrow morning."
"Where are we going?"
"To Beijing."
"Then that’s settled. If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up."
After hanging up with his secretary, Wang Zhuo picked up his chopsticks and continued eating.
"Why don't I come with you all?" Gan Shuang asked, placing a boneless rib on his plate, her expression tinged with concern.
Gan Ma, standing nearby, quickly signaled Wang Zhuo, trying to convey her worry. Her future son-in-law going to a pyramid scheme den to find someone was already risky enough, but thankfully, Wang Zhuo handled matters methodically, so she wasn't overly concerned. However, if Gan Shuang insisted on joining, she absolutely would not agree.
Wang Zhuo noticed his future mother-in-law’s signal but pretended not to see it. He smiled at Gan Shuang, "You can’t come. After Fu Xinran and I leave, the company will rely on you to handle any issues that arise. If anything happens, call me—I’ll direct you remotely."
Gan Ma immediately chimed in, "That’s right, that’s right! What good can a woman do going along? It’s better for you to stay in Jiangzhou, where you can put Wang Zhuo’s mind at ease!" Wang Zhuo's reasoning was sound, and Gan Shuang couldn't insist further. She asked instead, "Then who are you taking with you?"
Wang Zhuo counted on his fingers, "My cousin Lu Weimin, Fu Xinran, and Siyuan. The four of us are enough."
Gan Ma looked surprised and immediately asked, "Siyuan? Isn't she just a seventeen-year-old kid? Why is she going with you?"
Wang Zhuo chuckled, and Gan Shuang answered for him, "Mom, don't let Siyuan’s age fool you; she’s actually very capable. Give her a computer and an internet connection, and she can accomplish things that would take us weeks of running around."
"What are you talking about? I don’t understand," Gan Ma said, utterly bewildered.
Gan Shuang explained with a sigh, "Her specialty is electronics and network technology; she’s a prodigy. Wang Zhuo wants her to use technical means to pinpoint Ji Guang's exact location."
"How can she find someone just thrown into a crowd?" Gan Ma seemed highly unconvinced.
"Auntie, you truly have to admire this; she really can find him," Wang Zhuo interjected with a smile. "Take you as an example. As long as your phone is on, even if you haven't paid the bill, the mobile company can trace your signal to know where you are. Siyuan can pull up the mobile company’s internal data... and find you."
Gan Ma simply hadn't been exposed to this kind of knowledge before—it wasn't a matter of low intelligence, just not common knowledge for ordinary people. After hearing Wang Zhuo’s explanation, she thought it over and understood, gasping slightly, "So, if the local police cooperated, wouldn't this person have been found long ago?"
"Exactly." Wang Zhuo tilted his head and shrugged.
Gan Ma stared into the distance for a while before finally sighing, "This society today... sigh. Not even Jiangzhou is peaceful anymore, let alone those remote, underdeveloped cities? What is happening to the world?"
Fu Xinran had woken up early and, after getting fully ready, called Wang Zhuo. Timing it perfectly, she headed downstairs right on schedule.
She had recently benefited from the employee housing loan offered by the company, purchasing a two-bedroom, one-living-room apartment in a prime, highly sought-after area of Jiangzhou City. For the foreseeable future, the company would deduct a set amount from her salary monthly as interest-free mortgage payments; she wouldn't pay a single cent in interest to the bank. Her classmates and friends were intensely envious. In an international metropolis like Jiangzhou, many people couldn't even qualify to become mortgage slaves; relying solely on their salaries, workers wouldn't be able to afford such a five-million-yuan apartment even if they never ate or spent a dime in their lifetimes.
However, Ji Guang disliked this apartment. He had only visited twice: once to help Fu Xinran move in, and the second time, he dropped her off and left without even entering the door. Fu Xinran knew Ji Guang possessed a strong sense of masculine pride, but she viewed this apartment as a source of pressure and motivation for him, believing it would spur him to strive harder. Ji Guang had indeed been striving, but he had been deceived into joining a pyramid scheme. Fu Xinran sometimes mused with a bitter smile lately: Is it a sin for a woman to be more capable than a man?
Her timing was precise; two minutes later, Wang Zhuo’s champagne-colored Audi came into view. The morning rush hour traffic was heavy, and moments later, the car silently stopped beside her. She saw Lu Weimin in the driver's seat, and in the passenger seat sat a young girl she had seen once before when visiting the boss at the company. She walked over and got into the back door.
As the car merged into the traffic flow, Wang Zhuo, sitting next to her, smiled and asked, "How did you sleep last night?"
"All right. I had a bottle of red wine and watched some TV, then fell asleep on the sofa," Fu Xinran managed a faint smile. "I don't even remember when I moved to the bedroom."
Lu Weimin, driving, turned and asked with a smile, "Didn't you have a bottle of Wangchao Wuliang first?"
"No," Fu Xinran replied, shaking her head with a wry smile. "If I’d had that, the red wine wouldn't have worked, and I wouldn’t have been able to sleep at all."
"Take this," Wang Zhuo handed her the flight itinerary booklet.
Changing cards and such tasks certainly couldn't be handled by the boss himself; that was the assistant's duty. Fu Xinran didn't overthink it, naturally taking the booklet and casually unfolding it for a routine check. The moment she looked, she froze. The destination on the tickets was Beihai, Guangxi. All four tickets showed the same place. She looked up at Wang Zhuo, surprised and delighted, her excitement clearly visible on her face.
"This time, bring him back, and you must keep a close watch on him," Wang Zhuo said to her with a faint smile. "If he runs off again, I won't help you look for him, and you are forbidden to search either."
Fu Xinran nodded repeatedly, sitting in her seat with excitement, and performed a brief bow toward Wang Zhuo. "Boss, thank you!"
It wasn't until the car merged onto the airport expressway that she recovered from her euphoria. She asked Wang Zhuo with some curiosity, "Boss... Siyuan is coming with us to find Xiao Bai?"
"Of course. We have to rely on her to find your dear Xiao Bai," Wang Zhuo replied, turning to smile at Siyuan in the front seat. "Give our secretary a demonstration!"
Siyuan sweetly agreed with a cheerful "Okay," then took out a tablet computer and began manipulating it. Fu Xinran waited to see her "demonstration," but the girl remained silent, focused only on the screen, making it impossible for her to guess what Siyuan was up to.
About two minutes later, Siyuan suddenly announced, "Done," then turned and handed the tablet to her, saying with a grin, "Secretary Jie, do you recognize this map?"
Fu Xinran took the computer curiously. The screen displayed an administrative map of Jiangzhou City, overlaid with a thin, colored line, about two millimeters thick, winding through various parts of the city. Small text noted timestamps along the line. At first glance, she didn't understand the meaning, but as she followed the colored line and the corresponding times, she suddenly realized: this was a precise record of her movements from the previous day, noting down exactly when she took the subway and which supermarket she visited at what precise time!
She paused, then her eyes widened in astonishment. Disbelievingly, she asked Wang Zhuo, "Boss... how did she do that?"
"Let her explain it to you; I'm going to take a quick nap," Wang Zhuo said. He had barely slept the night before, first spending time alone with Gan Shuang while Gan Ma watched TV in the living room, then engaging in some car intimacy with Gan Shuang until just before the school dorms closed, and finally staying overnight with Qi Fei and Guan Yingying. He hadn't closed his eyes much and was now seizing the chance to rest.
By the time they reached the airport, Fu Xinran’s admiration for Siyuan was boundless. Being able to crack the mobile company’s database and selectively retrieve the movement logs for a specific number—that was the work of an elite hacker. Yet, this seventeen-year-old girl had achieved it effortlessly—it was almost unbelievable! Now she finally understood why Wang Zhuo had insisted on bringing the girl along; with Siyuan’s help, their chances of finding Ji Guang had increased dramatically!
Checking in, exchanging tickets, and waiting at the gate, Wang Zhuo couldn't find a quiet moment to rest his eyes and instead browsed serialized novels on his phone. Lu Weimin chatted with Siyuan like an inquisitive child, asking about novelties he had never heard of, such as phone eavesdropping or video scams. In crime exposé segments on television, producers often skirted details, vaguely referring to "technical means." Now, he had met an expert who could answer all his questions.
After boarding, Wang Zhuo first surveyed the flight attendants. Unfortunately, only one—a voluptuous one—caught his eye, but she had coarse hair and thick pores, disappointing him. He shook his head slightly and then adopted a posture of resting with his eyes closed, using his X-ray vision to secretly study how the pilots controlled the aircraft.
The journey was uneventful. At eleven o'clock, the plane landed precisely at Beihai Fucheng Airport. Qi Ji personally came to greet him. Since accepting the olive branch Wang Zhuo had tossed him, he and Qi Fei had finally buried the hatchet. In front of Wang Zhuo, they were now cordial and amiable, practically acting like model gentlemen.
The lunch Qi Ji had thoughtfully prepared suited Wang Zhuo’s tastes—it was neither extravagant nor time-consuming, featuring local specialties. After the meal, Wang Zhuo politely declined Qi Ji’s offer to accompany him further. He boarded the same commercial van that Lu Weimin and Fu Xinran had used, heading straight for Shu'an City, where Ji Guang was currently located.
Halfway to their destination, Siyuan’s tablet suddenly beeped an alert. She picked it up, and immediately laughed with excitement, "Ji Guang’s phone is on! He’s only sixty kilometers from where we are now!"
