Finally, the young Rin, albeit with great reluctance, set off on the path of "diligent study" alongside her younger sister. Having suffered a tremendous blow to both mind and body, her expression upon leaving was deeply sullen; in this state, it was unlikely she would receive a red ribbon today.
"Um... perhaps we should go look around too?" Not long after Rin departed, Lin Luo suggested to the others.
Because they could not yet determine how long they would remain in this world, Lin Luo felt lost regarding many matters. Whether it was preparing for the Holy Grail War, deciphering the world's rules, or handling issues like the King's sword scabbard... none of these could be accomplished in just a few days; he felt powerless across the board.
With nothing pressing to do, he suddenly felt completely idle. Unlike the To Aru Majutsu no Index plane, where one incident followed another with almost no downtime, this sudden stillness left Lin Luo somewhat unaccustomed.
No villains to fight, no antagonists to crush—it seemed that aside from charming his near-harem members while strolling about, there was little else worth spending time on.
Thus, after obtaining the consent of the lolis and the Queen, Lin Luo swiftly darted down into the basement magic workshop. Ten minutes later, he darted back out again... He had to admit, his cheap father-in-law, though perhaps a bit naive, was quite generous. The moment he asked, the man casually tossed out sums in the tens of thousands without even counting the single digits. Eating the soft rice truly was effortless.
Then again, the Tohsaka family was inherently aristocratic, holding the top position in Fuyuki City—a notoriously wealthy lineage. Although Rin carried the unfortunate title of a "penniless young lady," that was only after the death of Tohsaka Tokiomi. For a little girl of seven or eight, even if she inherited the family's magic, inheriting the entire estate was clearly impossible. Those uncles, aunts, older cousins, and distant siblings surely seized the opportunity to claim their share. After such divvying up, it would be a miracle if Rin ended up with even a tenth of the true inheritance.
Moreover, Rin utilized the family's heirloom Gemstone Magic... which could also be called Spendthrift Magic. From cultivation to practical use, nearly every spell required drawing a little from her private stash. The fact that she hadn't wanted for food or gems to grind over ten years was nothing short of a miracle.
But now, reverting to ten years prior, with Rin's father alive and well, the family coffers were naturally overflowing. A mere hundred thousand or so was utterly insignificant to the great treasury of the Tohsaka family.
"Let's go. Now we're sweeping through Fuyuki City." With money in hand, Lin Luo felt significantly more confident. He waved his hand grandly, chest out, like a nouveau riche man who had just acquired a mistress.
"Looks like you're enjoying eating that soft rice a bit too much."
The teasing voice of Misaki Shokuhou echoed in his mind, instantly extinguishing half of Lin Luo's bravado. He smiled bitterly, "Your Majesty, can we please not state some things quite so explicitly?"
"Fine. I'll be more subtle from now on."
Lin Luo looked utterly dejected. Without Misaka and Rin here, it seemed there was truly no one to manage this woman.
"Mikoto, Mugino, where would you two like to go today? My treat." Lin Luo decisively ignored her and began asking the two little girls for their opinions.
"Hmph, it’s not your money anyway," Mugino muttered dismissively, her tone dripping with disdain. But Mikoto didn't seem to care. She blinked, a hint of anticipation in her voice, "Um... um... is there any of that?"
"That?" Lin Luo was startled, but he quickly understood, sighing, "As for Gekota, I personally think there probably isn't any in this world."
"Eeeugh..." Mikoto made a sound resembling a small, disappointed animal.
"What's Gekota?" Shokuhou asked curiously from the side. Although Gekota could almost be considered a specialty item of Academy City, the Queen, who always pursued style and glamour, would naturally not know about it.
"It's just a toy kids like; a green frog decoration, an amphibian," before Lin Luo could answer, Mugino explained Gekota's essence, laced with a touch of mockery. "For the mighty Level 5 Railgun to have such an interest... tch."
Shokuhou didn't understand Gekota, but why did Mugino know so much about it? Lin Luo felt a surge of suspicion.
"Wh-what's wrong with Gekota? What does it have to do with being a Level 5 or having hobbies?" Mikoto retorted, her face flushing. Perhaps due to reverting to a loli form, her already low psychological age had regressed further, making her fondness for Gekota seem less tsundere and a bit more honest.
"That's why I say you're just a child, Number Three."
"Always going on about Number Three, are you that insecure about only ranking Fourth?"
"What did you say?" Mugino immediately flared up, her eyes widening.
"Didn't hear clearly?" Mikoto countered just as sharply. "Then I'll say it again: are you that insecure about only ranking Fourth, old hag?"
"You looking for a fight, you brat?"
"Want to brawl? Who’s afraid of who? I was just thinking of teaching you a lesson!"
"Hmph. You think you can beat me now? Overestimating yourself."
"Just because you grew a pair of ugly black wings, you think you're so great? You bird-man!"
"Shut up! You're no better! Be careful, I’ll smash your face in!"
"Come on then. If you're so tough, show me those two crow wings. See if I don't hack them all bald!"
"You... I'll kill you," Mugino ground out, murderous intent radiating from her face.
"If you want a fight, I'll see it through to the end," Mikoto matched her spirit, full of fighting intent.
What is going on with me? Why did they start fighting again over nothing? Lin Luo felt like spitting blood. These two seemed destined to clash, their temperaments fundamentally incompatible, leading to squabbles at the slightest provocation.
Before the tragedy sparked by a single Gekota could fully unfold, Lin Luo quickly interposed himself between them, praying fervently, "My esteemed ladies, I beg of you, please settle down! Don't forget what we agreed upon yesterday—you absolutely cannot expose your powers."
"She started the provocation!" Both pointed at the other in unison.
"You're the one who started it first!" Again, in perfect unison.
"Damn it, stop copying me!" The third time times two... they were quite synchronized.
The two fell silent again, glaring daggers at each other.
Fortunately, they were somewhat obedient (truly obedient?), not yet resorting to actual violence. But just as Lin Luo was breathing a sigh of relief, Shokuhou suddenly chimed in with a smile, "Well now, Misaka-san, Mugino-san, such rude behavior is not characteristic of good little girls. If you keep being naughty, someone might just lift your skirts."
"You bastard, who are you calling -san? Are you tired of living?" Mugino's furious gaze immediately snapped toward Shokuhou, eyes practically spitting fire.
"As retaliation, I can blast your head into dust with one shot!" Mikoto was equally enraged. She loathed being treated like a child the most. Shokuhou, having escaped the loli transformation because she hadn't signed the contract, already felt unbalanced; now to be mocked with this—it was unforgivable.
Lin Luo was completely done for. Your Majesty, in a situation like this, you still have to pour oil on the fire? Are you tired of living? And... who was that 'someone' who would lift skirts?
Misaka Mikoto, Mugino Shizuri, Shokuhou Misaki... these three were all Level 5 espers occupying the pinnacle of Academy City. Their relationship could definitely not be called good—no, it was arguably at its absolute worst.
Mikoto and Shokuhou, being the only two Level 5s at Tokiwadai Middle School, were classic examples of "one mountain too small for two tigers"; their friction was certainly not limited to once or twice. Mikoto and Mugino had engaged in fierce, direct confrontation before, almost to the point of mortal combat, forming an absolutely antagonistic relationship before they signed contracts with Lin Luo. As for Shokuhou and Mugino, there was no need to even think about it; given their personalities, a friendly relationship would be the true anomaly.
Suddenly, Lin Luo felt that bundling these three powder kegs together and suggesting they go shopping was a colossal mistake.
Watching the potential battle between the three reach its boiling point (primarily Mikoto and Mugino; the Queen’s five combat power was negligible, she was purely using words to provoke), Lin Luo was gripped by a headache. If they were going to bicker like this every day, he wouldn't get any work done; just mediating their disputes would take up a significant chunk of his time.
Oh, and there was the devil Rin. All four of them were difficult to manage, each more demanding than the last.
Thankfully, perhaps because the noise outside had grown too loud, Tohsaka Aoi emerged from the house and said, "What's wrong? Are you fighting? Sisters must never resort to physical means when they have disagreements; good children must be well-behaved."
"No... we weren't fighting."
Mikoto and Mugino responded, simultaneously turning their heads away.
See? The same words spoken by different people. The Queen only added fuel to the fire, while Tohsaka Aoi managed to soothe the situation. Such a difference... Tsk tsk, it seemed that having a virtuous, domestic-type young woman would certainly be essential in the future.
Lin Luo thought to himself, but outwardly he said, "It's nothing, Auntie Aoi. We were just planning to go out for a walk, and they were discussing where would be the best place to visit."
"Oh, I see." Tohsaka Aoi naturally didn't doubt Lin Luo's words and suggested, "Fuyuki City isn't a huge city, but there are many interesting places. For example, the commercial street on the east side and the electronics center on the south side are quite lively."
"Is there an Akihabara?" Lin Luo's eyes instantly lit up.
"What is that?" Tohsaka Aoi looked puzzled.
Right, looks like there isn't one. Lin Luo was instantly disappointed. After chatting casually with Tohsaka Aoi for a few more minutes, he led the two pouting, irritable lolis, along with the inwardly scheming Queen, away from the Tohsaka mansion.
