Time slipped by quickly, and in the blink of an eye, Lin Luo and Mikoto had been on this island for seven days.
Over these few days, not only the already anxious Mikoto, but even Lin Luo, who hadn't been overly worried, began to feel conflicted... this isolated island life was not as idyllic as he had imagined.
Setting aside other issues, their sustenance alone presented numerous problems. It was as if the Lord of Censorship had visited this island; not only were animals scarce, but not a single fish, shrimp, or crab could be spotted along the shore. In the end, the two could only subsist on wild fruits, leaving their mouths utterly flavorless.
Furthermore, no ships had passed by during these days, dashing their hopes of catching a ride. While they considered building a raft to leave, the issue was that no one knew their precise location. What if they were thousands of miles across the ocean? Even Railgun couldn't manage crossing the sea on a single reed!
Of course, Lin Luo hadn't been without gains during his seven days on the island, primarily concerning his understanding of his own power.
Just as Lin Luo had predicted, in the Kyou Dou state, he had indeed reached Level 3 in Esper ranking. Coupled with his talent amplification, his calculation capabilities had seen a significant boost. At present, at full power, the maximum electrical output Lin Luo could release could reach one hundred thousand volts, cementing his status at the peak of LV3 without a doubt.
However, this didn't mean Lin Luo could definitely defeat other Espers of the same rank. Possessing great power did not equate to great strength; being a true powerhouse meant having mastered the control of that power.
Take Mikoto, for example. Even without using her full strength, if she deployed power just slightly exceeding LV2, she could completely defeat Lin Luo without sustaining a scratch. This fact spoke volumes.
Thus, to master this power more proficiently, Lin Luo practiced sparring with Mikoto whenever he had free time. In this regard, Mikoto proved to be an exceptionally qualified instructor. After all, as a Level 5 Esper, her control over power had reached a state of utter perfection.
Over the course of a week, Lin Luo made immense strides in his ability control. While not yet flawless, he could at least utilize it skillfully, rather than relying on blind output as before.
Next was the materialization of the Contract Book. Lin Luo had witnessed this phenomenon with Liu Ziwen. After forming the Heart Contract with Mikoto, the Contract Book could be materialized. When materialized, the Contract Book was palm-sized, resembling a notebook.
The function of the materialized form was clear: it could generate a protective film over the Master's body, much like a magical defense shield. The robustness of this shield was intrinsically linked to the Master's personal power.
To put it simply: if Lin Luo materialized the Contract Book without entering the Kyou Dou state, the shield's maximum defensive capacity was roughly 1.5 times that of an ordinary person. But if materialized while in the Kyou Dou state, Lin Luo could ignore all attacks below the strength of a high-level LV3 Esper. This wasn't absolute, however; for instance, an Electrified Spear attack launched by Mikoto using LV3 strength would be sufficient to breach Lin Luo's shield.
Moreover, the materialized form had its drawbacks. Once the shield sustained an attack, the Master’s vitality would also be consumed to some extent. If the shield was shattered, the materialization would instantly dissipate, drastically reducing the Master's vitality. Furthermore, it could not be materialized again until the vitality was fully replenished.
Perhaps this could be considered a form of unconventional balance.
There was one other point that preoccupied Lin Luo, and one that Mikoto desperately hoped for: returning to her original world. Lin Luo had initially thought that upon the Contract Book's level-up, there might be some guidance concerning this matter. After all, his other contractors resided in other worlds; if he couldn't travel to their worlds, what was the point of forming the Heart Contract?
So, Lin Luo had been quite expectant about this, but now it seemed... it was indeed impossible!
Forget methods for traversing worlds; the Contract Book hadn't provided any information whatsoever about the contractors he had yet to contract with.
As expected, building a harem wasn't a week-long project. The path to wooing girls remained distant...
"Lin Luo, look quickly, there's a ship!"
Mikoto suddenly exclaimed in surprise. Lin Luo followed the direction she pointed and saw a cruise ship approaching their position on the horizon.
"Holy crap, after waiting so long, we finally found a ride! This is great—wait?" Lin Luo was ecstatic about finally escaping this cursed place, but mid-sentence, he suddenly sensed something was amiss.
"What is it?" Mikoto asked, looking puzzled.
Lin Luo stroked his chin, frowning. "This is an uninhabited island, right?"
"Yes, is there a problem?" A few question marks flickered across Mikoto's mind as she struggled to grasp Lin Luo’s meaning.
"Mikoto, do you think a cruise ship would randomly sail towards a deserted island if nothing were wrong? And so coincidentally, right when we get stranded here?"
"You mean... they are coming specifically for us?" Regardless, the Railgun was a highly intelligent individual. Although most of her brainpower was dedicated to her psychic abilities, upon Lin Luo’s hint, she instantly understood.
"If I'm not mistaken, it's highly likely," Lin Luo sneered. In this world, the person who would specifically target him could be guessed just by counting on his fingers—it could only be Liu Ziwen.
"They're here at the perfect time! That bastard, I'm going to teach him a harsh lesson this time!" Mikoto’s eyes darted, and she immediately figured out who it was, instantly rolling up her sleeves. The Railgun had never forgotten being inexplicably defeated last time.
Watching Mikoto grind her teeth, Lin Luo sighed inwardly. Regarding the incident where Mikoto was injured previously, he hadn't understood the mechanism at the time, but now he could vaguely surmise it was nothing more than utilizing Mind Imprint to infinitely amplify Mikoto’s inner demons, causing her to be consumed by them.
His Contract Book also contained information about this ability, but it was a mutually destructive method: while amplifying another's inner demons, the caster would also be consumed by theirs. If Liu Ziwen hadn't been a Summoner, whose mental fortitude was not significantly weaker than Mikoto’s, the Railgun might not have fallen before he himself was finished.
It was truly tragic. A dignified Level 5 Esper, not even using half her full power, was reduced to hanging on by a thread by Liu Ziwen’s mental attack. If Lin Luo hadn't fought desperately, they might both have perished.
Of course, even more tragic was Liu Ziwen. No matter how chuunibyou he acted, he had provoked the one person in 2011 who should never have been provoked: Tokiwadai’s ace, the Level 5 Esper, Railgun Misaka Mikoto!
The most powerful Electric Princess, the most combative tsundere girl, the most popular Moe Queen of 2011!
Liu Ziwen, although I don't believe in God, purely from the heart of an otaku, I offer you one moment of silence. Amen.
Lin Luo made a cross sign over his chest.
P: I only just realized that the Railgun's real name isn't Misaka (fn) Mikoto, but Misaka (bn) Mikoto... Well, after being a fan of the Railgun for so long, it's shameful that I didn't even know her real name. But Misaka (bn) Misaka (bn) really isn't cute at all; I might as well stick to Misaka (fn). Misaka (fn), Toosaka (fn)—that’s what’s moe!
Although this book has 'leveling up and cultivation' tags, I really don't want to write about that aspect. When I read before, I was never interested in the protagonist's cultivation plot and would skip it directly. Some books spend two or three chapters detailing the protagonist’s training process. While this is essential, it's dreadfully boring. So, if I do write about the protagonist's growth process, I will limit it to a few hundred words at most. I only want to write about interesting, ambiguous interactions, not tedious monologues. If any readers feel the protagonist's growth is too fast, then I can only apologize and ask you to fill in the blanks yourself...
I really had no focus today; it took four hours just to write this one chapter. Sigh, I'm exhausted... Please vote for me as well.
