This place was the Overseas Continent, untold distances from the Rocky Empire—perhaps hundreds of millions of kilometers. Though she had wronged him in the past, she too had been manipulated by others; he held no real grudge. Seeing her lying here now only brought shock.
"What in the world is going on?" Chen Feng’s gaze flickered, catching sight of a bottle beside her. He casually picked it up, about to examine it closely, when a sound of air tearing rent the distance—like a triggered alarm. A coarse voice bellowed, "Murder!"
Immediately, figures flickered all around, and dozens of shadows flew forward, encircling him entirely.
"Brother..." A person darted out from the crowd and immediately knelt before the middle-aged man's corpse, agony etched across their face.
Chen Feng looked at the kneeling figure; indeed, the features resembled the middle-aged man's by six or seven parts.
"He murdered someone! Don't let him go!" a stout man in the crowd shouted.
"Ah, how can there be a child... He must have abducted her with ill intent, got caught, and then killed to silence the witness! The contents of the bottle in his hand, if I guess correctly, must be the Lullaby!" the stout man continued shouting.
"Lullaby?" Hearing this, the crowd erupted as if a pot had exploded.
Lullaby was a potent concoction brewed from rare medicinal herbs, the formula known only to lowlifes. If inhaled unprepared, it caused the entire body to go numb and paralyzed, leading to unconsciousness within half an hour—even a Saint Domain expert could not escape it. It was a tool for petty thieves and predators; its appearance here caused widespread shock.
"Lullaby?" This was the first time Chen Feng had heard the name. He looked at the small vial in his hand; it contained a fine, pale blue powder. He intended to take it back for Elder Yan to study; perhaps they could organize a Lullaby squad!
Tucking the Lullaby into his canteen, Chen Feng surveyed the area and stated calmly, "I only just arrived."
"Don't listen to his nonsense! He must be the murderer!" The same stout man immediately began to agitate the crowd again.
Chen Feng frowned, stood up, and walked over to the stout man. "You say I'm the murderer? Where is your proof?"
"Proof..." The stout man was momentarily speechless.
"This is the proof!" An angry, pained voice cut through the air. It was the younger brother of the deceased middle-aged man, still kneeling on the ground.
He pointed at his brother’s chest, which was caved in, all the ribs shattered.
"You are Chen Feng of the Dragon Domain! You used your fists to crush my brother's ribs!" he roared.
Everyone present had seen Chen Feng knock Lei Di flying earlier that day; it was not surprising that his punch could shatter ribs.
"Broken ribs don't prove I did it! Furthermore, I don't even know your brother. Why would I attack him?" Chen Feng had intended to stay silent, but hearing the baseless accusations, he couldn't help but defend himself.
Murder required motive; murder without motive was simply wanton slaughter.
"You drugged this girl with malicious intent, and when his brother caught you, you struck him down!" the stout man quickly explained.
"Do you even believe that conclusion yourself? If I intended to do something untoward to the girl, would I do it here where you could catch me?" Chen Feng scoffed.
He was stating a fact; they were not far from the gathering place. If he truly wanted to "do something," he wouldn't choose a location where he was likely to be discovered. Even a common seducer wouldn't be this foolish.
The surrounding crowd, hearing this logic, couldn't help but nod in agreement.
"Perhaps... you just like doing it right here..." the stout man stammered.
Chen Feng suddenly shot out a hand, gripping the stout man’s neck and lifting him clean off the ground, his voice turning cold. "If you want to frame me, at least find a decent excuse, or I will kill you!"
The stout man choked, his face turning from red to purple, clearly on the verge of collapse.
Chen Feng flung him heavily onto the ground and turned away, ignoring him.
"I know why! It's because of this..." The middle-aged man's brother suddenly shouted, retrieving a booklet from his brother's body. Based on the cover, it was the Roster of the Mighty.
As he pulled out the booklet, he said, trembling, "My name is Kairi, and my brother's name was Keith. He was ranked 16th on the Roster of the Mighty!"
Kairi’s words caused an immediate ripple of excitement. These people all knew that Chen Feng ranked 17th on the Roster. Since the victim was ranked 16th, there was seemingly a clear motive to kill him.
Chen Feng let out a cold laugh. "Idiot!" He ignored the crowd. If he wanted to kill Keith, he would challenge him openly; doing this only invited suspicion.
"What happened?" Several elders strode forward.
"We heard the shouts and rushed over. We found Lord Keith murdered here, and only Chen Feng of the Dragon Domain was present!" someone in the crowd reported.
An elder glanced at Chen Feng and said coldly, "During the Five Powers Tournament, no one is permitted to commit murder outside the competition grounds. No matter how deep the grievance, one must set aside past grudges, or else, they challenge the Fist Emperor himself!"
Chen Feng paid him no mind, turned, and walked to Judy’s side. He lightly tapped her shoulder with his finger, and a gentle, warm current immediately seeped through his fingertips into her body.
He intended to wake her up and ask why she was here.
"You..." The elder's face turned pale with anger when Chen Feng ignored him. His gaze fell upon Judy on the ground, his pupils contracting. He instantly condensed an energy sword at his fingertip and slashed toward Chen Feng's hand.
"I didn't kill him. I don't know why he died!" Chen Feng knew these elders were the enforcement team maintaining order here, and he did not wish to make enemies with them. He withdrew his finger and offered an explanation.
"You say you didn't kill him, so we should believe you?" Kairi roared. With a thud, he knelt before the elders. "We implore the esteemed members of the Enforcement Team to bring justice for me!"
"Rest assured, we will investigate this thoroughly and give you an accounting!" The elder helped Kairi up and then turned to Chen Feng. "Please come back with us!"
"Where to?"
"Because you are the primary suspect, we must detain you first. Once the real killer is found, you will naturally be released!" the elder explained.
Just as Chen Feng was about to speak, his eyes caught a fleeting glimpse of the shadowy figure he had seen upon entering, lurking in the dark shadows not far away, wearing a sinister grin.
This entire sequence of events must be connected to this shadow. If he could capture him, he could learn many things.
"Where do you think you’re going!" With this thought, Chen Feng roared, stomped the ground, and launched himself toward the shadow like an eagle.
Boom!!
Chen Feng was struck four or five times mid-air—it seemed the elders assumed he was attempting to flee and attacked simultaneously. However, this level of assault was useless against him. His speed undiminished, he reached out a large hand and lunged for the shadow nearby.
The shadow, seeing him approach, tried to turn and flee, but its speed was visibly reduced. After barely ten meters, Chen Feng was behind it and seized its shoulder.
The shadow let out a sinister sneer and clawed back toward Chen Feng’s eyes with its free hand. Chen Feng dodged the strike, increased the force in his grip, and with a crack, shattered the shadow's entire shoulder blade.
"Ah..." The shadow screamed, and with its remaining fist, it hammered backward. Using the force of that blow, the body shot backward. It leaped once more and plunged headlong into the darkness of the forest.
Chen Feng pursued immediately. After running only a short distance, his expression tightened. The shadow lay flat on the ground, its breath already gone!
"Nowhere to run!" In the moment Chen Feng paused, the elders of the Enforcement Team caught up.
"Your claim that you didn't kill the first person might be excusable, but this time we saw it with our own eyes! Are you still going to argue? Form the grand array!" the leading elder shouted. The remaining men immediately surrounded Chen Feng.
"I didn't kill him! I didn't even strike hard!" Chen Feng explained.
"We all saw it! You can't deny it this time!" The stout man, whom Chen Feng had slapped earlier, shouted again.
"He is killing people casually here! If we don't get an explanation, the Fist Emperor's reputation will suffer!"
"So what if he's from the Dragon Domain? Can the word 'reason' be trampled upon just because he can kill indiscriminately?"
The surrounding crowd began to shout in chorus.
"It's Todd Xing, ranked fifteenth on the Roster of the Mighty!" An elder, having finished examining the shadow’s body, turned and announced.
Hearing this, not only were the bystanders stunned, but Chen Feng himself found it unbelievable.
How could it be such a coincidence? Two people had died in front of him consecutively—one ranked 16th and the other 15th on the Roster of the Mighty?
"What else do you have to say?" an elder from the Enforcement Team asked Chen Feng.
"Even if I wanted to improve my rank on the Roster of the Mighty, why would I kill someone right in front of all of you?" Chen Feng replied lightly.
"This..." The elder was immediately struck dumb.
"He did it intentionally! Don't let him go, or he'll escape!" the stout man yelled once more.
Chen Feng suddenly spun around, a glint of light flashing in his eyes. "Who exactly are you?"
The stout man shrank his head. "I am who I am! Are you not allowed to speak because you’ve killed someone?"
"Enough. Regardless of whether it's your fault or not, you must come with us today!" The elder concluded and was about to make a move!
"Fine, I'll go with you!" Chen Feng agreed. He took a few steps forward, then suddenly unleashed a Mind Teleportation Spell, instantly appearing in front of the stout man and seizing his neck again, lifting him up.
"Speak! Who are you, and why are you framing me?" Chen Feng, having been troubled by this man repeatedly, had long sensed something was amiss. That’s why he feigned agreement with the elders, only to suddenly seize him.
Boom!
At that moment, a massive explosion ripped through the area where the residents were housed, sending towering flames into the air.
"Ling Feng!" Seeing that the explosion originated from the area where the Phoenix Domain people resided, Chen Feng roared in fury.
ps:: I feel like these last few chapters are a bit messy; even I can barely follow them. Please allow me to reorganize. The beginning of Volume One is where the layout begins; perhaps I rushed things, wanting to include everything at once, which turned out counterproductive. Looking back, the writing is quite poor. I apologize!! I probably won't hit ten thousand characters today; I'll update as much as I can, striving to prevent this problem from recurring!! (To be continued.
