There are friends in the comments section questioning the character of the "official second generation," Qin Siqing... How should I put it? Perhaps the setup provided by Hongchang Faca in the earlier chapters wasn't quite substantial enough, leading everyone to feel that this teenage loli wasn't gloomy enough, cunning enough, or cold-blooded enough. A few lines in the main text of this chapter serve as a small patch to the previous narrative, helping everyone understand why she thinks and acts the way she does. On a side note, perhaps such a perfectly good child doesn't truly exist in reality, but let her appear in the book. A novel is a journey where the author and the readers fulfill their dreams, right?

After they brought the people to the police station, those two officers got busy with other matters, leaving Wang Zhuo and Qin Siqing waiting for a solid half hour.

It wasn't until the lead officer took a phone call that he finally put down his work and beckoned Wang Zhuo, who was sitting on the sofa waiting.

"Uh... let's take a statement first. Did you bring your ID?"

"I didn't bring it," Wang Zhuo shook his head.

The officer didn't pay much attention and casually asked, "Which school are you from?"

"We are from Jiangzhou Medical University, freshmen who just started."

"Jiangzhou Medical University?" The officer frowned slightly, looking at Qin Siqing. If this little thing claimed to be a high school student, it would be more believable, but Jiangzhou Medical University seemed a bit much.

Wang Zhuo chuckled, "She scored 680 on the college entrance exam, third in the entire province."

The officer instantly judged that the matter must be true; liars usually don't speak with such precision. Sometimes, the more exaggerated a story, the truer it feels.

"Officer Uncle, I have a question," Qin Siqing interjected, "In your jurisdiction, there are so many beggars on the streets, why don't you deal with them?"

Although this statement lacked an aggressive tone, it was clearly posed as a challenge. Qin Siqing grew up around her grandfather; every year was either spent in the hospital or studying. She hadn't developed the typical attitude of a powerful official's offspring; her heart was almost pure, and her speech was direct, without any tendency to beat around the bush.

If Wang Zhuo had said those words, the officer would have immediately retorted. But facing a girl of fourteen or fifteen, whose age made him old enough to be her father, how could he get angry?

With no other choice, he could only explain, "The beggars are the City Management's responsibility, not ours. We are only responsible for maintaining public order."

"Then what about child trafficking? You don't handle that either?"

Another officer couldn't stand it any longer and impatiently stated, "If no one reports it, how are we supposed to handle it?"

"Then we are reporting it!" Qin Siqing immediately countered, "Now someone is reporting it, so you can handle it, right?"

The officer scoffed dismissively, his gaze sweeping over Qin Siqing and Wang Zhuo. He gave a forced, insincere smile and said, "You are reporting it? Where is the evidence? Where is the victim? How do you prove that child was trafficked?"

"Alright, Xiao Liu!" The lead officer showed some displeasure, reprimanding the overly talkative officer. He turned back to Wang Zhuo and said seriously, "Our colleague already made a call. The people you injured are in serious condition; the broken teeth alone total over twenty. They want to press charges of assault and battery against you, so you cannot leave for the time being."

Hearing that the three men had lost over twenty teeth combined, the aggressive demeanor of the chatty officer visibly subsided, perhaps intimidated by Wang Zhuo's skills, or for some other reason.

"They are playing the victim first!" Qin Siqing looked angrily at Wang Zhuo. "I need to call Uncle Xiao. Let's see what kind of wretched situation this is!"

Who was this 'Uncle Xiao'? Just as the lead officer was about to subtly inquire, the phone on the desk rang.

"Director Zhao, this is Da He. Damn it, I just went to the restroom, and those three guys took the opportunity to run away!"

The volume of the voice from the receiver was so loud that Wang Zhuo and Qin Siqing sitting across the desk could hear it clearly.

"They ran away?!" Officer Zhao paused, staring wide-eyed, "What happened? Weren't they going to press charges against this student?"

"How should I know what happened?!" Da He complained aggrievedly, "The forensic examiner from the branch bureau is already on the way; they haven't even examined the injuries yet, and the people are gone!"

"Find them immediately!" Deputy Director Zhao's mind raced. He roared into the receiver, "This is called a guilty conscience; these people definitely have something to hide! Make calls, call in all our patrolling colleagues nearby!"

Hanging up the phone, Deputy Director Zhao grabbed his police cap from the desk and put it on, saying solemnly to Wang Zhuo, "The situation has changed. Those three bolted while our colleague was in the restroom. It seems they definitely have issues. There's no need to mention the charges against you now. Just leave your cell phone number; we need to go look for them now. I'll notify you immediately if there's any development."

The talkative officer immediately bolted toward the exit, muttering, "I'll go get the car!"

"I'm just a poor student; I don't even have a cell phone yet." Wang Zhuo glanced at him, picked a business card from the holder on the desk, and said, "How about I call you back when I get to school? I can give you my dorm room number."

"Fine! Then you two can go ahead." Deputy Director Zhao readily agreed, already standing up in a posture of seeing them off.

The situation had reversed with such dramatic flair. Wang Zhuo and Qin Siqing left and got into a taxi. They saw Deputy Director Zhao, clutching a small bag, hurrying toward a van parked on the street outside the police station.

"Why didn't you give him your phone number?" Qin Siqing asked.

"Do you think he sincerely wanted it?" Wang Zhuo let out a cold laugh and said, "This is called minimizing a big problem into a small one, and a small one into nothing. Now that one party is missing and the other party consists of two out-of-town students, once he sends both sides away, his job is effectively done, isn't it?"

"But didn't he say he was going to look for those people?" Qin Siqing sounded unconvinced.

"Look for those people for what? To bring trouble upon himself?" Wang Zhuo shook his head with a cold smile, turned around, and looked toward the police station, using his X-ray vision to peer across the chaotic traffic.

He saw Officer Zhao and the talkative officer, who claimed he was starting the car, sitting inside, smoking and exhaling clouds of smoke. Officer Zhao was on the phone with someone, while the talkative officer had his arm resting on the car window, the ignition key not even inserted.

This certainly didn't look like they were preparing to chase anyone! The real intention was likely to call everyone to just go home!

Although Qin Siqing was innocent, her intelligence was not lacking. After sitting quietly for a moment, she analyzed the outcome: Wang Zhuo was right. Those officers would most likely drop the matter. On one hand, they assumed this side wouldn't pursue it to the end and could be dealt with by stalling; on the other hand, finding a few people in a sea of strangers was indeed difficult, and they lacked the authority to issue an arrest warrant.

"Give me that business card," Qin Siqing stretched out a small hand.

"What do you need this for? Just throw it away," Wang Zhuo casually pulled out the card and handed it to her.

"Since I got involved, I have to see it through," Qin Siqing seriously tucked the card away, stating indignantly, "You don't understand unless you've experienced the pain yourself. If it weren't for these villains profiting off children, I would have an uncle! I'm not done with them regarding this matter!"

Wang Zhuo was stunned for a moment, shaking his head with a mixture of amusement and exasperation. So, Mayor Qin originally should have had an older or younger brother-in-law, who unfortunately was abducted by human traffickers forty years ago! This 'primal pain' was truly deep-rooted, a sorrow that seemed endless!
