"What in the blazes are you doing?" Chen Feng’s voice was low, his right hand gripping the opponent's throat TTT His tone was remarkably subdued, yet to the unfortunate knight, it struck like a bolt of summer lightning. The knight’s lips were ashen, his entire frame trembling.
Despite being a Rank Six Knight, he hadn't registered how this young man had approached and seized him in silence, a testament to the youth’s terrifying power. “I… I’ll tell you, it’s like this, we were hired to eliminate the three major Martial Families of Dragon Mountain Town…” the knight stammered, completely stripped of his chivalric bearing.
“Eliminate the three major Martial Families?” Chen Feng paused, stunned. Who would possess such audacity to challenge the three great Martial Families in Dragon Mountain Town?
Could it be the two great Magic Families he’d overheard earlier? The two Magic Families were indeed powerful, but their strength lay primarily at the Magus level.
Compared to true Fighters, they fell short. Furthermore, the Martial Families had developed their influence over a long period, their power not to be underestimated; dismantling them in one fell swoop would be no easy task.
Moreover, the Empire had established regulations forbidding direct conflict leading to the annihilation of Martial and Magic Families. Would the two Magic Families risk violating Imperial law by doing this?
“Were you hired by the Leve Family or the Catri Family?” Chen Feng asked. The Catri Family was the other Magic Family existing alongside the Leve Family in Dragon Mountain Town.
“Neither of them…” the knight mumbled through chattering teeth. “Then who?” “I don’t know, I am merely a grunt following orders.
My lord, spare me, that is all I know!” the knight pleaded. Chen Feng glanced at him, his hand on the knight’s neck gradually loosening.
He pondered internally: if the two Magic Families dared to conspire like this, they must have a strong backing. If this mercenary group wasn't hired by them, then another power must have joined the fray.
After a moment’s thought, he suddenly shook his head. Why was he concerning himself with this?
His sole purpose for being here was revenge. If revenge was his goal, what did it matter which faction was fighting whom!
Just as he fell into contemplation, a malicious glint appeared in the eyes of the knight lying on the ground. His right hand flashed out like a striking viper’s tongue, a cold streak aimed directly at Chen Feng’s chest.
Chen Feng didn't even bother to look; his right hand casually snatched the attack, and the knight’s assault instantly dissolved. The poor knight felt a searing pain in his mind, and all strength slowly drained from his body, leading to instantaneous death.
Perhaps until his last breath, he couldn't comprehend why his vicious sword thrust had failed so utterly. The reason Chen Feng had released his grip on the throat wasn't carelessness; to him, a knight of that cultivation level was inconsequential, easily dispatched, so he paid no mind to the possibility of a sneak attack.
He stood up, dismissing the concerns of the various families. Let them spill each other's blood; it had nothing to do with him.
His purpose was purely vengeance. With a casual wave, a ball of purple flame erupted, instantly incinerating the knight’s corpse into ash.
Then, activating his Wu Kong Shu (Sky-Soaring Technique), he ascended into the sky. Once airborne, Chen Feng suddenly realized he still didn't know the precise location of the Leve Family.
Although he had enmity with them, he hadn't returned for a full year, and the memories he had forcibly absorbed contained no such geographical knowledge. To seek revenge without even knowing where the enemy resided—Chen Feng found this situation ridiculous.
Shaking his head, his body transformed into a streak of starlight, flying towards the direction of the Kaint Family, the place most deeply etched in his memory. Although the Leve Family was the primary instigator who forced him out, all the humiliation heaped upon him had been delivered by the Kaint Family.
Since he didn’t know the Leve Family’s whereabouts yet, he would first settle the score for his broken arm and shattered teeth! “Qigu Kaint!” A chilling coldness flickered in Chen Feng’s eyes.
After all, he was a transmigrator. He held no affection for the biological father who had created the body he now occupied, especially after the ruthless treatment he received.
In his heart, Qigu had long been an enemy. Chen Feng was never lenient with his foes, regardless of who they were!
Flying through the air, Chen Feng maintained control over his emotions, forcing himself not to become overly agitated. A year ago, right after he arrived, in that period of confusion, he suffered the greatest humiliation of his life: two teeth knocked out by a single slap, and an arm brutally broken!
The intense hatred, like a ceaselessly gnawing worm, served as his constant spur. Repeated life-and-death breakthroughs, every battle fought, had a single purpose: to one day plant his foot upon Qigu’s chest and repay every ounce of the insult suffered!
Now that revenge was within reach, how could he not be excited? Slightly narrowing his eyes, Chen Feng regulated his speed.
In less than fifteen minutes, he arrived before the familiar slate-grey colossal structure. However, the Kaint Family compound appeared somewhat chaotic.
The formerly tall, jet-black main gate was shattered into several pieces, lying strewn across the ground. The two imposing, majestic stone lions flanking the entrance had also been smashed to fragments, debris littering the area.
“Heh heh…” Upon seeing the scene, a cold smile touched Chen Feng’s lips. “It seems someone was even more eager than I.
They arrived ahead of schedule! But whoever you are, don’t kill Qigu Kaint.
I want to exact my own revenge. If anyone kills him first, I will kill that person!” Chen Feng felt a surge of elation.
Seeing the family that had so cruelly driven him away now in such disarray brought him a certain satisfaction. Yet, if Qigu were already dead, he would be deeply displeased.
He had endured a year of harsh cultivation solely to wash away the shame; returning only to find his target already slain would destroy the point of it all! He stepped through the collapsed gate and looked inside.
Numerous bodies lay scattered across the ground—some clad in servant attire, others wearing the robes of Kaint Family disciples, and still others were clearly swordsmen or knights. It was evident that a fierce battle had taken place to leave the courtyard in this state.
Chen Feng noted the bloodstains on the ground, observing that they had not yet fully congealed. The fight must have concluded only minutes ago.
Following the path of corpses, Chen Feng advanced deeper. He paid no mind to the fate of the Kaint Family members; his only concern was whether Qigu was still alive.
The Kaint Family possessed deep roots in Dragon Mountain Town, so their courtyard was extensive. After passing through two smaller doorways, Chen Feng saw people still engaged in combat inside.
Several swordsmen, forming a tight circle with their blades, were systematically hacking down a few individuals dressed in Kaint Family clothing. In moments, those few men were reduced to a bloody pulp.
Chen Feng watched without any intention of intervening. Seeing that the group of swordsmen hadn't noticed him, he skirted around a side entrance and headed towards the central assembly hall.
This was the very hall where his arm had been broken and he had been driven from the family. The closer he walked, the more densely packed the bodies became.
It seemed the Kaint Family members had been intentionally retreating in this direction during the fight. “Hold!” Just then, a booming shout echoed from the direction of the assembly hall.
Upon hearing that voice, a faint, chilling smirk crossed Chen Feng’s lips as he murmured softly, “Good timing. It seems you aren't dead yet!” It was the voice of Qigu Kaint, the patriarch of the Kaint Family.
“Everyone, please stand down!” Qigu’s voice still carried authority, clearly audible above the clamor. “I know the Kaint Family’s fate is sealed today.
You can kill me, but spare these children and servants. They are innocent!” Chen Feng activated Wu Kong Shu again, silently flying towards the source of the sound.
In the large courtyard before the assembly hall, nearly three hundred people were gathered, clearly divided into two opposing camps. The swordsmen he had just seen numbered over two hundred.
The Kaint Family, backed against the hall, had fewer than a hundred remaining. Qigu Kaint stood at the forefront of his diminished ranks, his robust figure standing as straight and unyielding as a green pine.
Fearing detection, Chen Feng swiftly executed a turn in mid-air and slipped into a large tree within the courtyard. “Heh heh, Patriarch Qigu must know the importance of cutting the weeds to the root, mustn't he!” a sharp voice cut in from the center of the swordsmen.
A tall, thin elder with a pointed mouth slowly emerged. Upon seeing this man, Qigu’s face instantly twisted into an expression of rage.
“Locke, you are a leading figure among the Blackrock City Martial Families. Why have you sided with the Magic Families to launch this ambush?” “Siding with the Magic Families?
Patriarch Qigu, you must be joking. This is purely a feud between Martial Families; it has absolutely nothing to do with the Magic Families,” Locke replied with a laugh.
Qigu, being exceptionally clever, immediately grasped the larger picture upon hearing this. No wonder the Leve and Catri Families hadn't sent a single person during this massacre of the Martial Families—they were indeed wary of the Imperial decree forbidding conflict between Magic and Martial lineages.
But they had thought of this stratagem: first, sow discord among the three major Martial Families, and then annihilate them one by one… “A feud that has nothing to do with the Magic Families!” Qigu laughed, a sound filled with mad self-mockery. “I truly never imagined the Magic Families would plot for a whole year just to wipe out us three Martial Families!
And we fell for the trap they laid!” Hearing this, Locke’s face broke into a smile. “I didn't expect Patriarch Qigu to be such an understanding man.
To figure out the entire scheme in such a short time—truly remarkable!” “Heh heh, what use is understanding it now? It’s all over,” Qigu’s voice was firm, his back perfectly straight.
“I don’t know what benefit Harileve promised you, but seeing you bring this many people, I know the reward must be substantial. Since my doom is certain today, how about a trade?” “A trade?” Locke scoffed.
“Do you have the qualifications to negotiate with me?” Qigu let out a cold snort, instantly releasing a formidable aura. His voice dropped to a low register as he stated, “I, Qigu Kaint, may only be a Rank Two Fighter, but if I truly fight to the death, even if I am surrounded and killed, I can guarantee at least thirty of your men will die with me!” His words landed like heavy stones.
Though spoken calmly, they caused a ripple of unease among the assembled swordsmen. ps: Only 40 minutes left until the double monthly ticket effect ends.
