At the entrance to Monster Town, fledgling warriors emerged, almost every single one stained with blood—perhaps the monsters', perhaps their own. Some were even being helped out by their friends.
"Beep, beep—"
A piercing sound announced the exit of heavy-duty trucks from the town. These massive lorries were piled high with the corpses of monsters.
"Hey, these are the bodies of the fledgling warriors. Come take them." One heavy truck stopped to the side. Indeed, numerous bodies lay on the flatbed, some horribly mangled, clearly having been half-eaten by the monsters. The truck unceremoniously dumped these fledgling warrior corpses onto the ground nearby.
"Ah!"
"A'Gan!"
"Xiao Yin!"
Instantly, many of the warriors who had already exited cried out in shock; some even threw themselves onto the bodies, wailing uncontrollably.
"What are you crying about?" A stern voice cut through the air—that of a military officer. This drew angry glares from many of the fledgling warriors, but the officer’s icy gaze swept over the crowd. "In the fight against monsters, there are always casualties! The moment you chose the path of a warrior, you prepared for death! Humanity grants privileges to warriors, why? Not so you can live in luxury, but because you kill vast numbers of monsters, benefiting humankind. That is why you receive privileges."
"Your status, your power... all of it must be earned through risking your lives!"
"For this trial, we assigned you only the weakest monsters, and none that operate in packs. If you can’t even pass this trial, how do you expect to survive once you enter the wilderness?" The officer's words silenced every fledgling warrior. They knew much about the monsters.
Among the monsters, the most troublesome were the 'pack-operating types,' such as the 'Lion Mastiffs' among the canine breeds, which moved in packs of dozens. Even mid-level Warrior-grade fighters dared not provoke them.
"Two monster left ears, next one, left arm injured."
"Lü Fang? Hmm, three monster left ears, good. Next."
Near the town entrance, every fledgling warrior who emerged went to turn in the left ears of the monsters they had slain, proving the count of their kills.
"Look, Luo Feng is out."
"That’s Luo Feng, pre-recruited by the Extreme Martial Arts Association."
"I wonder how many monsters he killed."
"Strong physique doesn't necessarily mean he's good at hunting monsters."
Suddenly, the attention of the crowd of already emerged fledgling warriors focused on Luo Feng, who had just walked out of the entrance. Luo Feng, Wan Dong, and Ma Xiao were the only three in this cohort who had been pre-recruited. Word spread quickly; almost everyone in this group knew the three of them.
"Hmm?" Luo Feng paused, realizing he was being stared at by a multitude of fledgling warriors the moment he stepped out.
"Luo Feng, right? Hand over the left ears of the monsters you killed." Three officers were seated ahead; two of them were operating laptops. One officer looked up at Luo Feng.
"Yes."
Luo Feng nodded and unslung his backpack. At that moment, the gazes of the surrounding crowd fixed entirely on his bag, intensely curious about how many monsters Luo Feng had actually slain.
"Whoosh!" Luo Feng directly upended the contents of his pack. A large pile of monster left ears clattered into a metal basin beside him, filling it more than halfway.
"So many?"
"How many monsters did this guy kill?" The fledgling warriors watching from a distance were stunned.
The examining officer began counting the ears one by one. After a moment, the officer smiled at Luo Feng. "Luo Feng, not bad. A total of 36 monster left ears. So far, you have killed the most among this batch. And, you’re uninjured."
"Next." The officer turned to the next person, and Luo Feng walked away with a smile.
"Passed the practical combat assessment. I am a true warrior now," Luo Feng felt a surge of exhilaration.
Luo Feng then stood with the crowd, watching the subsequent arrivals turn in their kills. Some of these newcomers were completely unharmed, but most had minor injuries that would heal in ten days to half a month. There were, inevitably, those with serious injuries or even permanent disabilities.
"Yang Wu, hmm, good. Three monster left ears, slight injury to the left arm. Next."
Yang Wu had also returned safely.
"Brother Yang," Luo Feng called out from the crowd.
"Crazy one!" Yang Wu laughed heartily and rushed over. "How did you do? How many monsters did you kill?"
"Thirty-six," Luo Feng replied as they walked to a corner away from the main throng.
"Thirty-six? Damn, Crazy One, you're insane. Those monsters are hard to kill." Yang Wu’s eyes widened. "Especially that Tiger Mastiff—it was faster than me, and don't even get me started on its strength! For monsters of the same rank, their power is usually a significant notch above human warriors. I fought tooth and nail just to kill three."
Luo Feng smiled. H-rank monsters certainly couldn't be underestimated. Even a mid-level Warrior would be in grave danger facing seven or eight H-rank monsters simultaneously.
Luo Feng had relied on his mental focus to hone his movement techniques to that degree.
"Wan Dong!"
"It’s Wan Dong, the genius fledgling warrior pre-recruited by the Thunder God Dojo. I wonder how many left ears he turned in. Who is stronger between him and Luo Feng?"
"Yeah, the only one who can compare to Luo Feng is Wan Dong."
Conversations nearby made Luo Feng and Yang Wu, who were hiding further back, look up in surprise. Yang Wu was particularly astonished. "Wan Dong waited this long to come out too? Crazy One, I heard Wan Dong's physical fitness is no less than yours. I wonder how many monsters he actually killed this time."
The fledgling warriors standing at the front stared intently at Wan Dong’s backpack. Behind them, others strained their ears to listen.
"There's a pile of monster left ears."
"It looks like a lot."
Suddenly, a commotion erupted at the front, followed by the voice of the examining officer: "Wan Dong, hmm, a total of 51 monster left ears. Haha, you’ve surpassed Luo Feng. For now, you are the one who has killed the most monsters in this wave of fledglings."
"Fifty-one?"
"That’s so much more than Luo Feng?"
"This Wan Dong is truly formidable. Fifty-one monsters—truly terrifying." The fledgling warriors, having already experienced the might of the monsters, gasped in awe.
"Crazy One, this Wan Dong actually beat you," Yang Wu muttered in amazement.
"Does killing more matter?" Luo Feng smiled dismissively. Yesterday night, his main focus had been on refining his movement techniques. If he had truly set out to hunt the weakest H-rank monsters, with his current strength, by sneak-attacking lone ones, killing over a hundred of the weakest monsters in a single night wouldn't have been unexpected.
"Luo Feng." A voice called out.
Luo Feng turned to see a large, bearded officer smiling at him. "Come with me for a moment. A friend wishes to see you; they are in the lounge ahead."
"Oh?" Luo Feng was slightly perplexed...
Someone wanted to see him?
Luo Feng didn't hesitate and followed the bearded officer. Before entering the lounge, Luo Feng removed his blood-stained combat uniform, quickly washed up, and changed into clean, fresh clothes before stepping inside.
Inside the lounge, a powerfully built man sat with his eyes closed. Suddenly, he opened them, and his gaze shot toward Luo Feng like an arc of lightning.
"It's him?" Luo Feng was startled.
He recognized this man. It was the person who had been speaking with Manager Zhuge earlier—one of the four giants of the Thunder God Dojo in Jiangnan Base City.
"My name is Wang Heng, Manager of the Thunder God Head Dojo," the burly man said with a smile. "Luo Feng, sit down."
For him to sit opposite this manager? Luo Feng inwardly gasped... He was keenly aware of how high this manager's status was. In fact, a manager of the Head Dojo held a status comparable to a God of War-level expert! They possessed astonishing authority; in Jiangnan Base City, this man sitting before him was practically omnipotent.
"Why aren't you sitting? Afraid I'll eat you? Haha..." The burly man laughed heartily.
Luo Feng chuckled and took a seat across from him. "Mr. Wang, may I ask why you wished to see me?"
"It's very simple."
The burly man smiled gently. "I investigated your family situation. You come from an ordinary background; your father is just a common decoration worker, and your mother is a supermarket sales assistant. You have no special advantages, yet you have reached this level by the age of eighteen. That is truly rare."
Luo Feng offered a complex smile. Indeed, he had strived for this day for too long.
"I admire you greatly, and I believe you have immense potential."
"I formally invite Luo Feng to join my Thunder God Dojo!" the burly man declared, looking at Luo Feng.
"I... I have already signed a contract with the Extreme Martial Arts Association," Luo Feng replied with a slight smile.
The burly man shook his head dismissively. "A contract? Since it's a contract, it can be broken! You just pay the penalty. According to martial arts regulations, the maximum breach fee cannot exceed three hundred million. I believe your value far exceeds that price! Our Thunder God Dojo will cover that penalty for you!"
"Furthermore, upon joining, I will arrange a special training contract from our Thunder God Dojo Global Headquarters for you!" the burly man continued with a grin. "Every year, no more than ten warriors worldwide receive this Special Training Contract! Each one is an absolute top-tier genius. So far this year, our Thunder God Dojo has issued only three such contracts: one to a 20-year-old Advanced Warrior from the EU nations; a genius from South America who is a Mentalist; and the third to a 16-year-old Intermediate Warrior from our nation's capital, 'Jinghua Base City.' You would be the fourth!"
Luo Feng was profoundly shocked. Those three individuals were all monstrous talents. It was clear that Wan Dong and Ma Xiao, despite being pre-recruited, were still not qualified for this 'Special Training Contract.'
And he qualified?
Strictly based on physical aptitude alone, Luo Feng might not have warranted such a contract. But when coupled with one crucial detail—having already grasped the 'Subtle Level' movement technique—that alone was enough to earn him the Special Training Contract. After all, grasping the Subtle Level movement technique by age eighteen was almost unbelievable.
"As long as you join our Thunder God Dojo, I will give you this contract. I will send you for training at our Global Headquarters, and you might even have the chance to receive personal guidance from the legendary 'Thunder God,'" the burly man said with a smile. "Luo Feng, the Thunder God Dojo has absolute sincerity in inviting you. Join us!"
