Zhu Shou hadn't actually expected his rebellion to succeed so swiftly. His initial motive for revolt stemmed from the fact that his ancestor was once a brother to the founding emperor of the Ma Dynasty, but through some twist of fate, he failed to ascend the throne, instead being enfeoffed as a Prince in Huyang. For the lustful and debauched Zhu Shou, perhaps Shuangcheng was the true paradise of sensual pleasure. Thus, this outwardly fragile man harbored a deep-seated ambition since childhood: to return to Shuangcheng, claim the throne, and reclaim everything he believed was rightfully his.

As his beautiful dream neared realization, Zhu Shou couldn't fathom how easy the uprising had become. City after city fell without even needing a siege. Smaller county towns were usually defended by a mere hundred men, barely enough to watch the gates, let alone the walls. Larger cities might boast a thousand to a few thousand garrisoned troops, but they possessed no fighting spirit and crumbled at the first touch of the rebel army. If not for the timely restraint of Zhong Wang, perhaps forces from multiple directions would already be converging on Shuangcheng, and he would currently be indulging himself atop a high mountain within the city walls.

Although the imperial court was not idle, allowing itself to be slaughtered, they dispatched formidable figures to quell the bandits. However, Zhu Shou placed such little stock in their meager troop numbers that he readily accepted Lin Gu’s advice to disregard them entirely. As a pre-battle mobilization, he decided he wouldn't cease his revelry until he had his fill that day.

He truly had to thank Daoist Zhao’s miraculous medicine. Not only was his spirit greatly uplifted, but critically, his vitality had surged exponentially. Seeing the woman beneath him nearing a state of ecstasy, Zhu Shou’s masculine ambition swelled immensely. He wouldn't have cared if there were thirty thousand men, or even three hundred thousand, at this moment. When a man is fortified below, his confidence inevitably inflates.

Sizzling, sizzling—a strange sound, followed by choking dust beginning to spread. The guards on the high platform shouted in unison,

“Protect the Prince! Investigate immediately what is happening!”

The assembled generals and nobles, who had been indulging in wine and pleasure below the platform, also scrambled to their feet. Their sole reason for joining the rebellion was the promise of luxury, gluttony, and absolute freedom. What was life for if not for a better existence? The rebel army’s continuous victories had only inflated their desires further. According to their earlier discussion, once the imperial army arriving tomorrow was wiped out, Shuangcheng would be left defenseless, allowing their massive army to sweep directly toward the city. The Ma family would vanish entirely from history, and they would be the founding heroes. But no matter how glorious the future seemed, one’s life was paramount; without it, everything else was moot.

“Your Highness, bad news! The stone walls of the palace have been burned through!” Finally, a soldier ventured close enough to observe clearly. Sunlight streamed through large holes perforating the wall, terrifying them almost into paralysis.

Zhu Shou flung the woman from beneath him aside, his fat, massive body planting itself at the edge of the platform, causing a slight wobble. Immediately, a serving maid rushed forward to drape a robe over him—such imperial pampering was truly enviable.

“Impossible! My palace was designed to be fireproof, waterproof, and impervious to attack. Once the stone doors are sealed, who could possibly intrude upon us? What exactly is happening?”

Among the assembled lords and generals, some were quick-witted. Seeing trouble erupt, they quickly dressed and moved to guard the Prince, while others rushed to the scene. Then, Lin Gu’s voice cut through the dust:

“Your Highness, our stone walls have been breached by fire—a very strange weapon! The Imperial Army has broken through!”

Given Lin Gu’s personality, he would never have spoken so definitively or uttered words that might shatter morale so easily. However, he had clearly seen the commanding figure leading the Imperial Army just moments ago, and that figure exuded utter composure. Recalling the few setbacks he’d recently suffered, seeing those bizarre holes burned into the wall made him blurt out the truth.

Although Lin Gu was often suspected by the various princes and generals, his competence was widely known. Now that he confirmed the Imperial Army had penetrated their lines, the others were terrified out of their wits. Those previously shielding Zhu Shou began to retreat. The main hall, already descending into chaos, became even more frantic. The sizzling sound resumed on the walls, and new holes appeared continuously. Soon, one section was burned clear, the stone above lost its support, and with a crash, a large chunk collapsed.

Someone screamed:

“The Imperial Army has taken Huyang! They must be attacking the Prince Shou’s residence now! Everyone, flee for your lives! If stone can be burned through, what chance do we have?”

This shout solidified the resolve of those who had been observing uncertainly. With a rush, one large contingent surged toward the stone doors, while another mass headed toward the high platform, knowing that if the main doors failed, their only exit lay through the private passage reserved for the Prince behind the platform.

Zhu Shou felt a deeper terror. He hadn't realized that just moments ago they were discussing the Imperial Army still being fifty li away, yet suddenly Huyang had fallen. The chaotic scene offered him no time for contemplation; he scrambled faster than anyone else. His personal guards hacked at those surging toward the platform, clearing a path as they retreated backward with the Prince.

The numerous breaches undermined the palace’s overall structural integrity; walls continued to cave in. A few men managed to heave the heavy stone doors open, and those inside, fearing being crushed by the collapsing structure, poured out desperately. The situation outside was slightly calmer; those standing in the courtyard hadn't witnessed the Imperial Guard attack directly, so they weren't stampeding blindly like those from the hall. Instead, they observed the pandemonium with wary curiosity.

As a dozen people squeezed through the doorway, a round object descended from the sky and landed among the crowd. It was immediately followed by a deafening boom. Those at the center instantly closed their eyes for the last time, free from all worry. Those on the periphery felt a stinging, burning pain across their bodies, as if fiercely stung by wasps; touching their skin revealed blood everywhere.

Upon seeing injuries and hearing someone scream, “The Imperial Army has broken in!” the panic intensified. People inside the hall surged outward even more frantically. Those who had been watching in the courtyard erupted into an uproar upon hearing the news, screaming as they fled. Thus, Prince Shou’s residence descended into riot, moving from the inside out.

I halted the bombardment. Hua Qingqing looked at me, perplexed.

“Why not just destroy that wretched palace? What are you keeping it for? Oh, husband, are you planning to capture Huyang for your own use? Hmph, keeping twenty wives inside for your pleasure—is that the enjoyment of an Emperor?”

Hua Qingqing usually disliked engaging in such intimate, playful banter in front of others, but after a long separation and enduring so many trials together, her joy at our reunion was intoxicating, and she unconsciously started teasing me.

I responded, “Qingqing, stay with me tonight. Right now, Yun Yao and I have been sharing a bed, the three of us. If you’re not used to it, we can take time to adjust. After this ordeal, I think we should treasure our time together even more.”

Hua Qingqing looked at me with deep affection. “Of course. If you don’t stay with me tonight, I’ll be angry. I’m so happy right now. I used to have no concept of right or wrong regarding the people on this planet, but now, the side you represent is righteous, and Zhu Shou and his lot are the opposition. I truly regret ever working for them before. You know I usually never go out. Zhu Shou was somewhat lecherous, but I assumed successful men here were all like that. You aren't angry about what I did before, are you?”

I laughed. “Do I look angry? If Zhu Shou had threatened to make you kill the Emperor, I would have done it too. In my eyes, only you are right; anything detrimental to you is wrong.”

Tears welled in Hua Qingqing’s eyes. “Husband, you are too good to us. Hurry up and eliminate them so we can go home. I miss you so much; I truly dream of you every night. I miss those carefree days we had on Earth, and especially when you accompanied me into the African rainforest.”

Watching the crowd below being bombarded, I fired a few laser beams, eliminating a group rushing out of the palace. “Don't worry, my love. Everything will return to how it was. I’m keeping the palace not for personal pleasure. I imagine this government hall took the dedication of tens of thousands of people to build. Zhu Shou has probably already fled via his private route. Scaring them with a few cannon fodder attacks is enough; indiscriminate destruction is wrong.”

Hua Qingqing asked, “Can we go back to where I lived? I need to retrieve many things—some precious medicinal herbs, my experimental equipment, and some finished elixirs. It would be a waste to leave them here; recreating that work would be too much effort.”

I nodded. Hua Qingqing never forgot her profession, no matter the situation. The medicines she concocted couldn't be ordinary. Leaving them to Zhu Shou would indeed be a waste. We should seize the chaos to retrieve them.

I signaled Zhou Ni, and then Hua Qingqing redirected the shuttle. Whoosh! We zipped over to the roof of the independent small building. Ah Mao and Linglong, along with Yun Yao, went down with Hua Qingqing to collect her belongings. The guards stationed below had long since dispersed amidst the panicked crowds. Moreover, since we approached via the rooftops and moved incredibly fast, few noticed us. We successfully loaded everything onto the shuttle, even bringing up Hua Qingqing’s clothes—one cannot leave behind personal items during a move.

Zhou Ni requested, “Brother Zhao, all the important personnel have hidden indoors. The rabble running outside are useless soldiers. Should we begin making rounds now?”

I agreed. “Alright, let’s split up. If we find a key target, we’ll cause some damage. That way, when the main army arrives tomorrow, they won't be able to fight from a position of ease, benefiting from our groundwork. Let them clean up this mess for a few days.”

Zhou Ni replied, “Understood. We'll pull back once we exhaust the Thunder Bombs on our vessel. You can use the laser cannon to start a few more fires. We’ll rendezvous at the main camp then.”

I settled Hua Qingqing in the rear compartment and had Ah Mao take the co-pilot seat. This was mainly because Ah Mao knew the locations of many important targets within the city. Ah Mao was fascinated by the pilot’s seat, taking quite some effort to familiarize himself with the screen displays. Following the main thoroughfares he knew well, we located the Huyang Prefecture Armory.

Zhou Ni’s vessel, the Linglong, could only attack ground targets; structures built beneath thick stone like this were beyond its capabilities. However, the laser cannon on my ship could burn through deep stone walls, and if there were flammable materials inside, the intense heat from the laser would trigger unpredictable fires.

Indeed, after just a few shots, smoke began rising from the tall, stone armory. Ah Mao excitedly said to me, “Sir, is this weapon similar to our laser rifles? They both rely on super-high temperatures to inflict damage?”

“Not similar; they share the same working principle. The only difference is that laser rifles have limited power. They can’t penetrate structures like this stone building. What we are using now is the laser cannon…”

Ah Mao interjected urgently, “I understand! A ‘cannon’ is something much more powerful than a ‘rifle.’ Like those large cannons in our artillery battalion, they are far more destructive than a thrown spear.”

I explained, “The two types of weapons you mentioned don't share the same principle. In terms of sheer power, our artillery is far inferior to the laser cannon, but the laser cannon's area of effect is limited. Against large numbers of enemy infantry, besides causing confusion, it doesn’t have much strategic value.”

“Understood,” Ah Mao said. “Sir, look! People are starting to run out of the armory!”

I fired a few more bursts through the now-heated stone openings. “Let them live. They aren't our primary target.”

“Then let me take you to the granary next, Sir!”

I gritted my teeth. “Fine. A true man must be ruthless. Nothing destroys morale faster than starving the soldiers. Fortunately, the rice harvest in Pingyuan County is nearly ready; even if we take Huyang, we should have ways to handle the ensuing crisis.”

The granary was built tall for moisture control and used stone construction for fire prevention. We circled the massive building more than a dozen times, pushing the laser cannon’s temperature near its limit before we managed to ignite a blaze. Shouts rose from inside and outside the storehouse, but once rice catches fire, it’s even harder to extinguish. Soon, a towering inferno erupted, and the entire roof collapsed.

“What wickedness!” I muttered, piloting the shuttle away. The people on the ground stared up at the shuttle, much like people on Earth watching a UFO. Some stood frozen, holding buckets of water. After all, the only things that flew, besides birds, were things they had never seen before. A massive object suddenly spewing fire—how could they not be terrified?

“Sir, shall we check a few barracks in the city now?” Ah Mao asked. “I know where those few locations are; we’ll see them once we fly over this residential area.”

“Good. Let’s do it. These few days have been dry and hot; let’s try a ‘burning the connected camps’ maneuver.”

Before we reached the barracks, Zhou Ni informed me they were withdrawing because their ship’s Thunder Bombs were depleted. The vessel now lacked offensive capability, and it was better to rest and refit than stay there. Zhou Ni mentioned she wanted to convert the Lingwan into a dedicated bomber, as the performance of the current weapon was spectacular; adding incendiary or smoke bombs would make it hundreds of times more convenient than the old small-scale drop-bombers.

The soldiers in the barracks had already seen the thick smoke and towering flames near Prince Shou’s residence and were standing outside their quarters, trying to figure out what was happening. Suddenly, a shadow fell over them. Looking up, they saw a giant, bird-like monster hovering silently overhead. A collective gasp went up. Then, a beam of white light shot down from beneath the massive bird. The targeted tent first developed a round hole, followed by smoke and flames erupting.

“Firefighting!” someone shouted first. The soldiers, snapping out of their daze, grabbed wooden basins to fetch water. But before they could find any, the camp was dotted with flames like scattered stars. The fire spread from one spot to another until it reached the point of no return. The entire barracks dispersed; living people couldn't just stand there and be burned alive—escape was the priority.

After burning down several barracks, we began to retreat outside the city. Spotting the contiguous camps of the North and South Princes, I was immediately incensed. Those two had taken two aphrodisiac pills from my wife; it was time they paid the price. Since the main army was arriving tomorrow anyway, it was better to disrupt their preparations for setting up camp and digging trenches now than letting them rest comfortably. With that thought, I lowered the shuttle and began weaving through the connected North and South camps, firing alternately.

Ah Mao burst out laughing. “Sir, is there even a fight left? It seems impossible for us to lose.”

I retorted, “If we only fight like this, we might not achieve victory. The defeated soldiers still have fight left in them, and Lin Gu, that old fox, has some tricks; he won’t accept defeat this easily.”

Ah Mao suggested, “Then let’s go find Lin Gu and take him out, wouldn't that solve it?”

I considered for a moment. “Never mind. He’s someone the Fifteenth Princess desires. Let’s give him a few more chances.”

Ah Mao commented suggestively, “Sir, you hold the Fifteenth Princess in high regard, don't you?”

I made a gesture for silence. “Keep your voice down. If the three behind us hear this, they might be the death of me.”

Ah Mao chuckled softly. “Sir, I admire you not only for your military prowess but truly for your romantic life, which we can only look up to. If we have the chance, we brothers will learn much from you. That Sixteenth Princess also seems quite taken with you.”

I explained, “She’s just a child who doesn’t understand love. It’s unlikely between us. Dealing with just Ma Xiaowei already leaves me completely unsure of what to do.”

Ah Mao insisted, “Sir, you are too close to see clearly. The Sixteenth Princess does not treat you like an ordinary man. The more she argues with you, the more it proves she cares about you and wants your attention. You are blessed, Sir. In Shuangcheng, no one has ever married two princesses before.”

I laughed at Ah Mao. “You’re quite astute, talking about learning from me. Perhaps I should be learning from you. We must instruct the brothers not to let this slip. If I haven't managed to accomplish anything with Ma Xiaowei yet, and the Emperor overhears, he’ll have me bound and executed—that would be a huge loss. Ma Xiaowei’s situation must also be kept secret.”

Ah Mao scoffed. “Do you really think the Emperor has the power to harm a single hair on your head right now? Even Grand Tutor Pang would have to think twice. Setting aside everything else, our spacecraft alone can completely subdue them! A hundred thousand Imperial Guards are nothing in our eyes. If you want them to lose, they will lose! With our three tens of thousands of troops, we could conquer the entire nation!”

I countered, “Ah Mao, I truly have no such ambition. Besides, Crown Prince Ma Xiaoda is a good child; he will govern Shuangcheng smoothly in the future. To be frank, I was already above ten thousand men back in my homeland. And you’ve seen that all these amazing tools are products of our home world. Do you think I would stay here to be some petty king? Haha, this place is too backward; we aren't accustomed to it.”

Ah Mao nodded. “Sir, but for someone of your ability to serve under others is truly a waste.”

“I don’t mind that. The population of our home world is hundreds or thousands of times larger than this place. Your technology here is comparable to ours a thousand years ago. Moreover, I still have parents, a wife, and children back home. Even if it weren't for the position of Federation Chairman, I would have to return. I only hope that when I leave, you all continue to support the Crown Prince well. I will come back to visit everyone when I have time.”

Ah Mao nodded again and fell silent. Just then, we received a positioning signal from Zhou Ni; they had tracked the army along the route and landed safely. Following the signal sent by Zhou Ni’s mobile device, we soon arrived at the main camp. Because of our arrival, Ma Xiaowei had ordered her troops to halt their advance and make camp for the night, intending to move toward Huyang the next day.

The Linglong rested peacefully on the open ground before the Commander’s tent. I retracted the wings on my shuttle, making it look identical to the Linglong, and landed side-by-side. Ma Xiaowei was already waiting at the entrance, smiling in greeting. Seeing Hua Qingqing appear, she showed no surprise. Instead, she and her sister, Ma Xiaorui, took Hua Qingqing’s hands, bombarding her with questions.

“Sister Qingqing, can you really refine the Elixir of Immortality? Could you make a few for me? You are so beautiful, and you smell so wonderful—Commander Zhao must favor you greatly, right?”

I turned to the three generals, Gu Qi, Ah San, and Xiao Dingzi. “Let’s go inside for a quick meeting; it won’t take long.”

This was the second formal meeting of the Combined Army Group. Gu Qi and the other two generals first offered stern criticism of my reckless infiltration into Huyang. Then, I gave them a detailed briefing on the current situation inside Huyang Prefecture. The men were energized by the news. Following that, they inquired about the two flying marvels. I gave a brief, superficial explanation, as a detailed account would be too troublesome.

They then asked, “Sir, we make direct contact with the enemy forces in Huyang tomorrow. How do you plan to fight this battle? Everyone is eagerly awaiting your instructions upon your return.”

I replied, “I will discuss it with the Military Supervisor later before making a final decision. For now, I want to know the morale of the soldiers in the three armies, what the grain harvest in Pingyuan County looks like, and the status of our weapons and supplies.”

Gu Qi answered, “Sir, after being reorganized in Hongping County, including the direct command Artillery Battalion and the Siege Battalion, our actual fighting strength exceeds fifty thousand men. This includes twenty thousand in the First Army, fifteen thousand in the Second Army, ten thousand in the Third Army, plus five thousand in the Artillery and Siege Battalions. Although most soldiers came from the rebel ranks, we have assigned sufficient personnel to monitor them. However, they are mostly common folk who haven't been corrupted by long-term depravity, making them relatively easy to reform. We promised them wages, and they are fully fed three times a day. So far, no one has voiced any dissent.”

After the reorganization in Hongping County, the troop strength had greatly increased, yet we sometimes still referred to ourselves as thirty thousand strong. The new combat effectiveness wasn't guaranteed, and I was prepared to discharge them from the roster at any moment to prevent them from affecting the overall fighting capacity. Hearing Gu Qi say that now was somewhat reassuring; Zhu Shou's spies likely got their information before the Hongping County reorganization, when the group army truly was thirty thousand strong.

I stated, “That is excellent. Zhu Shou’s forces now number one hundred sixty thousand. Our one-to-three chance of victory is still quite high. However, if those new additions prove unreliable, we would rather reduce our numbers than risk them damaging morale. The rebels ahead have too much experience from which we must remain vigilant.”

The three replied, “Please rest assured, Sir. We will pay close attention to this. During the battle, we will try to deploy the trustworthy troops first, assigning those newly incorporated surrendered soldiers mostly auxiliary duties.”

Gu Qi continued, “The grain supply in Pingyuan County will be sufficient for this season, and Hongping County will even have a surplus.”

I replied, “I just set fire to the granary in Huyang Prefecture. The consumption for the people inside the city will now rely on us.”

The three paused, and Gu Qi said, “So that is the situation. Sir, then we must be frugal. But an army without food in the city will have unstable morale, making it easier for us to break them.”

My setting fire to the granary was precisely for this consideration. After all, we were a distant force and did not hold the advantage in numbers. Therefore, any advantage we could gain elsewhere must be fully utilized, even if it was a desperate measure.

Gu Qi added, “Regarding the reserves of weapons and supplies like the Zhentian Lei (Heaven-Shaking Thunder), everything is in place, please do not worry about that, Sir.”

I said with relief, “Then this meeting is adjourned. This was just a temporary briefing. Specific matters will be discussed after dinner, once the Supervisor has made their final decision.”

The great fire in Huyang Prefecture did not die out until nightfall. Zhu Shou shivered uncontrollably while hiding in the underground palace, surrounded by his battered generals. Several of them had contracted severe ** because they were at the moment of climax when the sudden catastrophe occurred, causing an abrupt retraction that now left them unable to achieve arousal no matter the stimulation.

Zhu Shou exclaimed, “Gentlemen, please devise a plan. Who exactly are these people, and how can they fly? Is that monster a deity sent down to punish us? We haven't offered tribute to the various gods for quite some time. Starting tomorrow, have people resume the offerings.”

Many present agreed with Zhu Shou’s words, only Lin Gu objected: “Your Highness, that is not a punishment from the gods at all. It is a new weapon used by the Imperial Guard. That Zhao Qianqi is utterly cunning; he must have created it. No amount of tribute will change this matter.”

Someone below remarked, “That’s right, I saw that flying device. Its round shape is very much like Daoist Zhao’s alchemy furnace.”

At this moment, a guard stepped forward and whispered a few sentences into Zhu Shou’s ear. Zhu Shou’s face turned ashen. He declared, “This is disastrous. Daoist Zhao Qing has been abducted by them. His alchemy furnace is also missing. So, the chaos in Huyang Prefecture was all for this purpose.”

Zhu Shou’s announcement immediately triggered panic among the gathered princes and generals. Everyone’s initial confidence and hope were centered on obtaining the elixir of immortality. Now, with the person and the furnace gone, and the granary, armory, and barracks all burned, what hope remained?

Only Lin Gu did not believe the person had been abducted; he had clearly seen the two of them embracing intimately. However, realizing he had withheld crucial information, he dared not speak. Hearing the constant sounds of despair, he quietly retreated backward, not wanting to invite more trouble upon himself in this situation.

Yet, Zhu Shou noticed Lin Gu. He said, “Commander Lin, quickly think of a solution for this King. We must retrieve the Daoist and the alchemy furnace.”

Lin Gu could only step forward and say, “Your Highness, there is no need to rush this matter. They took the person and the object only for the sake of refining the elixir. As long as we defeat the Imperial Guard, the person and the furnace will eventually be ours.”

Zhu Shou anxiously pressed, “Then quickly find a way to defeat them! If we let them continue their rampage like this, will we even be able to survive?”

Lin Gu sighed, “Your Highness, it is too difficult. They now possess weapons capable of flight, which can breach even thick stone walls. We have nothing to rely on; the chance of victory in this battle is slim.”

Zhu Shou was greatly alarmed: “Commander Lin, didn't you say that superior numbers could compensate for our deficiencies? Didn't you say you were confident of winning? Why is the chance of victory now slim?”

The Southern, Northern, and Western Kings, along with the Heavenly, Earthly, and Human Kings, retreated through a private passage protected by their generals. They sustained only minor injuries due to the chaos, but some of their leading generals were not so lucky; most died honorably. This greatly diminished the strength of each king. Hearing even Lin Gu, this military genius, say the odds were not good, everyone was close to tears.

Lin Gu reported, “Your Highness, our army discipline has always been lax, with no strict rules to follow. We just received news that the barracks within the city have been attacked and caught fire one after another. The garrison troops are scattering everywhere. Out of six thousand elite soldiers, I fear fewer than four thousand remain.”

Zhu Shou demanded, “The city gates are sealed; where can they escape to? Send men to find them and bring them back.”

Lin Gu countered, “But Your Highness, the morale is collapsing, and combat effectiveness is low. Furthermore, reports are coming in from outside the city: the encampments of the Southern and Northern Kings are also on fire…”

“What?” The Southern and Northern Kings were unaware of this; they had been hiding in the underground chamber and had not seen the raging fires outside the city walls.

Lin Gu explained, “They are on fire. If you don’t believe me, you can go to the city walls and see for yourselves. It must have been done by that monstrous flying bird. It has a mechanism beneath its belly that emits superheated white light, capable of melting stone blocks. Setting a few fires is nothing. Now, all the reserve weaponry we accumulated over several years is lost, and three months’ worth of grain reserves have turned to ash. Your Highness, how do you propose we fight this war?”

Everyone stood there stunned. Zhu Shou blinked several times, and finally said, “Perhaps I should just ascend the throne and become Emperor. Let’s enjoy ourselves for as long as we can.”

The Southern and Northern Kings were immediately displeased. They found courage from somewhere and retorted, “Your Highness, at a time like this, you are still thinking of ascending the throne? We are about to be annihilated! Quickly think of a way to repel the enemy.”

Someone murmured from below, “How about we surrender?” As soon as this was said, it drew a torrent of curses. Surrendering to the court meant certain death, not just for the common soldiers—who would likely be spared—but the rebel leaders would certainly be executed.

Another suggested, “How about we retreat to Liuyang? We still have allies there; we can ask them to shelter us.”

Yet another proposed, “Let’s just retreat to the Jin Kingdom. We have been secretly trading with them for years; they should at least provide us a place of refuge.”

Both suggestions were quickly dismissed. Those so-called allies would hardly allow them to establish their own kingdom under their noses; one mountain cannot harbor two tigers. They already refused to take orders from the Huyang faction, and in Zhu Shou’s current position, he would never willingly submit to anyone else. As for the Jin Kingdom, if they could no longer provide iron ore, beautiful women, and grain, would they still take in this useless scum?

Zhu Shou paced frantically, “Gentlemen, what is to be done? Why can none of you come up with an idea at this critical moment? In terms of combat experience, you’ve captured so many cities; you must have learned something. In terms of military strength, even using the entire city’s numbers, we still have a giant force of a hundred thousand! Even if their weapons are formidable, we haven't seen them deployed in large numbers on the battlefield. Is there truly no chance of victory even if we fight to the death with everything we have?”

Recalling the previous battles, all the kings knew in their hearts that it couldn't be called warfare. The opponents often fled before the main army even arrived, leaving an empty city for them to occupy. Thus, they had no combat experience, though they excelled in gluttony and pleasure.

However, Zhu Shou’s words seemed to remind Lin Gu. He stated, “Your Highness, you are correct. Today we only saw two flying monsters, and one of them was clearly far less powerful than the other. If we commit the entire city’s strength and employ proper command, fighting a desperate, decisive battle against the Imperial Army might not result in total defeat. If deployment is handled correctly, we might even achieve a great victory. As far as I know, their victories every time have involved fire, and the severe consequences caused by that monster also involve fire. From today onward, we must increase our reserves of water within the camps. If a fire breaks out, we can extinguish it immediately. As long as the fire doesn't start, the power of those things will be greatly reduced. We can then use our superior numbers to charge the enemy and repel the Imperial Army in one go.”

As if granted a lifeline from despair, Zhu Shou roared, “Good! Since Commander Lin has such confidence, I place the command of the fifty thousand reserve troops and the sixty thousand elite forces within the city under your control. I hope you do not disappoint this King’s expectations. As long as the Imperial Guard is repelled, I will ascend the throne and become Emperor, and I will reward all of you according to your merits!”

At such a moment, those sitting below dared not harbor any selfish schemes; only by uniting to face the difficulty would it suffice. As for Lin Gu seizing great power, they could plot to take it back after the enemy retreated.

Lin Gu stated, “Your Highness, the enemy is not far from Huyang now. They must be celebrating their successful sneak attack. We must take advantage of their complacency and launch a counter-surprise attack tonight. They think we are in chaos inside the city and incapable of anything else; their night watch will surely be lax. I believe this raid will achieve success.”

Everyone secretly praised this old bone—he truly had skill. This plan was excellent: firstly, the enemy had been marching for days and would certainly be tired and sleepy at night; secondly, having just achieved victory, they would never expect their opponent to organize a counter-attack so quickly.

Zhu Shou shouted, “Brilliant!” “Good, Commander Lin, everyone awaits your good news! We will prepare a banquet to welcome your victorious return.”

Lin Gu’s morale, which had been low, was instantly restored. He replied, “Thank you, Your Highness. I will go down to organize the troops. This subordinate must go personally. If we can burn their camps in return, it will play a decisive role in the war situation.”

Zhu Shou laughed heartily, “Take more men with you! You should also learn from them and start fires everywhere; let them taste the flavor of being burned.”

Lin Gu responded, “Your Highness, for a sneak attack, the number of people is not as important as stealth. This subordinate will prepare now.”

Several women hid in a room talking for quite a while. The first to emerge were the Ma sisters. Ma Xiaorui muttered to herself, “Sister, what were they saying? I didn’t understand a single word. It must be Commander Zhao’s hometown dialect. It’s like they were afraid we’d overhear; why didn’t they speak in our language?”

Ma Xiaowei replied, “They can speak however they wish; how can we interfere? Xiaorui, why don’t you call him a big hooligan anymore?”

Ma Xiaorui retorted, “Who says I won't call him that? It’s just that this Commander’s name is quite strange, so I keep saying it out of curiosity. Sister, are you missing him? I’ll create an opportunity for you two tonight. If you get into bed later, you absolutely must tell me about it. I’m very curious.”

Ma Xiaowei said, “Stop fooling around. They are a couple reuniting; no matter what they discuss tonight, they won’t come out to mess around with us.”

The Ma sisters returned to their room as they spoke. Next out was Linglong, pouting with a clearly unhappy expression. I stepped out from the side and called her name. Seeing me, Linglong happily ran over, “Master, it’s so boring! I didn’t understand most of what they were talking about. It seems I still can't integrate into your circle of life.”

I comforted Linglong, “Don’t rush it. You can already understand quite a few Chinese words. Compared to Ma Xiaorui and the others, this is great progress for you.”

Linglong was delighted, “Yes! They left after listening for just a few sentences, but I managed to last longer than them.”

I said, “Alright, I’m going to find the Supervisor to discuss the future deployment of the war. You prepare dinner for everyone. It’s almost dark, and we have to march and fight tomorrow.”

Linglong nodded and went to the kitchen. I sneaked a glance at the four women inside the room; they were deep in animated conversation, discussing nothing more than their respective experiences. Since I had already decided to spend the night with Hua Qingqing, I wasn't in a hurry to interrupt their reminiscing.

The request to consult the Supervisor was merely a pretense. Given Ma Xiaowei’s current dependency on me, she would not object to any arrangement I made. As for Ma Xiaorui, although she verbally claimed not to like me, she would behave wantonly in front of me, certainly not treating me as an outsider. Moreover, she listened to everything Ma Xiaowei said, meaning I held the ultimate authority here.

My arrival clearly surprised the sisters. Ma Xiaorui asked in confusion, “Strange, didn’t you just find another wife? Why aren't you with her, but instead coming here to see us? You really give my sister face, ah.”

Ma Xiaowei was also puzzled, but her words were undeniably happy: “Yes, Zhao Qian, go spend time with Sister Qingqing. You reunited after enduring so much hardship; you must have many things to talk about.”

I replied, “No rush. We face a great enemy, and we need to discuss how to handle the future war.”

Ma Xiaorui said suggestively, “Oh, you two need to discuss official business again? I’ll make way for you. Feel free to talk; I will instruct the palace maids to guard the door well to prevent any spies from eavesdropping on the news. Sister, you have to thank me! The opportunity is created; you have to work hard yourself.”

Saying this, Ma Xiaorui smiled and ran off. Ma Xiaowei sat by the edge of the bed, looking constrained: “Didn't I tell you? Just make your own decisions about anything. If there are problems, I will explain to Father Emperor.”

I walked over to Ma Xiaowei with a smile: “Can’t I come see you just because I missed you? You tease me with text messages every night; be careful, or I won't be able to control myself.”

Ma Xiaowei leaned her head gently against my chest. “Who told you to control yourself? I want you to be overwhelmed. I won’t refuse you. Do whatever you’re thinking.”

This was clearly an invitation to bed. I stroked Ma Xiaowei’s soft hair and asked, “Did you miss me?”

Ma Xiaowei nodded. “But I know you plan to be with Sister Qingqing tonight, so I will wait for you. Has Xiaorui caused you any trouble these past few days?”

I replied, “No, she’s been very well-behaved. But you really wronged her, didn't you?”

Ma Xiaowei was momentarily stunned. “Huh? What do you mean, husband? Are you saying you won’t let me touch her anymore?”

I explained, “Xiaorui has an inflammation in her lower body, causing frequent urination and swelling pain, related to excessive sexual activity.”

Ma Xiaowei jumped in fright. “Ah! What should we do? She clings to me every night, and I can’t help it.”

I picked up Ma Xiaowei and said, “It’s fine. I gave her medicine, and she has basically recovered. Didn’t you see her bouncing around earlier? It’s just that in the future, they need to pay attention to hygiene and frequency, otherwise she might start suspecting she’s pregnant with your child again.”

Ma Xiaowei blushed deeply. “Nonsense! How could she get pregnant with my child? Xiaorui must have been talking nonsense.”

I recounted what happened that night to Ma Xiaowei. She felt both amused and ashamed—amused that this younger sister was even more inexperienced than she was, and ashamed that the two sisters had shared the same man for such an intimate act. How could she face anyone after this?

I continued, “After dinner, I plan to hold an enlarged meeting for the group army. All high-ranking officers from each army, the Chief of Staff, and division-level cadres must attend. Prepare yourself to be present; you have to put on a show. Little Tai is too restless; making her sit still for so long might not work. It’s better to let her rest in the room.”

Ma Xiaowei suddenly smiled. “Hey, are you eyeing my sister? You’re being so concerned about her?”

I replied, “I’m afraid she might lose control and cause trouble. Those army commanders are generals leading tens of thousands of men. Don't let people laugh at the Ma family for having no manners; it would reflect poorly on me, your brother-in-law.”

Ma Xiaowei said, “Really nothing else? Fine, I’ll go ask Xiaorui in a bit. You two might have been up to something behind my back! To dare do that in front of you—I must properly discipline that little girl.”

I clarified, “Seriously, nothing else. If you don’t believe me, go ask her yourself. That night I was forced; we were completely innocent.”

Ma Xiaowei said, “I’ll see after I ask her. By the way, you promised us about the Linglong Incident; don't disappoint us. I must fly a lap in my Xiaowei-ship.”

I thought to myself: someone should quickly name the other spaceship the Qingqing-ship, otherwise, letting someone else register it would be letting down Hua Qingqing.

After dinner, the main camp was packed tight. Each army’s senior leadership consisted of six people, plus A’Mao and the senior officers from the Artillery and Siege Battalions—more than twenty people gathered together. Looking at a room full of invigorated generals, Ma Xiaowei and I felt a sense of accomplishment. Heroes emerge in chaotic times; in prosperous peace, who knows what these men would even be doing.

The first item on the agenda, which I announced impromptu, was the establishment of the Group Army Aviation Brigade. This brigade would command four spacecraft: the Qingqing-ship, the Xiaowei-ship, the Xiaorui-ship, and the Linglong-ship. As for the Xiaowei-ship and Xiaorui-ship, which still needed modification, I would work on them overnight. In the future, these four spacecraft would undertake special missions such as breakthrough attacks, bombing, and arson. The Aviation Brigade would remain directly under the Headquarters command. The captain would be Miss Zhou Ni, as she was familiar with piloting all the spacecraft, and Zhou Shi also understood some maintenance methods.

The second item was to exchange opinions regarding the attack on Huyang Prefecture. A’Mao reported the intelligence to everyone, and then they discussed amongst themselves by army unit. After much deliberation, the consensus was that the enemy troops outside the city must be eliminated. Otherwise, even if we used a surprise tactic to capture Huyang City first, the fifty thousand enemy soldiers outside would become a thorn in our backs. In other words, this tough battle was unavoidable.

I signaled for silence, “Comrades, our opinions are basically unified now. Although we unleashed a heavenly fire on them at noon, the rebels only destroyed some supplies; their core strength was not actually harmed. Therefore, everyone must be psychologically prepared for this fierce battle. We need to determine in detail who will handle the breakthrough, who will handle reinforcement deterrence, who will be the main attacker, and who will be on the flanks. Should the enemy decide to attack first tomorrow, we will have a response plan ready.”

Gu Qi stated, “Sir, the main attack should naturally be undertaken by our First Army…”

Xiao Dingzi countered, “Sir, I believe the main attack should be undertaken by our Third Army.”

The Deputy Commander of the Second Army interjected, “Why are you two fighting over it? Our Second Army hasn't spoken yet! Our Second Army is the backbone of the Imperial Stable; we fight the tough battles because we have experience. Back then, we faced a siege by thirty thousand men!”

Gu Qi retorted, “That’s not right. Our First Army is the main force of the expeditionary Imperial Guard; our fighting power is by no means inferior to the Second Army—in fact, it's higher. Besides, we have the largest number of men. You handle the reinforcement deterrence.”

Xiao Dingzi argued, “The main attack isn't about numbers. Have you considered this? Zhu Shou has one hundred sixty thousand troops. Is it useful for us to compare numbers with them? Therefore, the main attack is primarily about morale. Whoever attacks the fiercest and most recklessly will frighten the opponent. Our Third Army is composed entirely of soldiers who escaped death; every single one of them disregards his life. We could tear off their ears even by biting them.”

The Division Commander of the First Army disagreed, “You’re talking nonsense! Most of your Third Army consists of newly integrated soldiers. If you fight on the main battlefield, what if disorder breaks out in the ranks and affects morale? No, that won't do.”

Xiao Dingzi, blushing, started arguing with him. I slapped the table: “What are you all shouting about? The battle hasn't even started, and you want to fight amongst yourselves first?”

Shi Shan, who was temporarily in charge of the Siege Battalion, stood up and said, “Everyone, stop arguing. Let Sir make the arrangements.”

Shi Shan was a good-natured man, always popular, and with the Commander's Censor glaring at them and slamming his hand on the table, the three corps commanders shot each other sour looks, none daring to meet the other's eye. A flicker of annoyance sparked in my chest. Damn it, they've only been given a little authority and they're already getting unruly. If this battle is lost because of them, nobody's life will be pleasant. Still, fighting over the main assault is a good sign; it's better than that bunch under Mi Shou scrambling to retreat.

I said, “You are vital cadres of the Army Group, each deeply trusted by both myself and Her Highness the Princess. When issues arise, you must learn to discuss them rather than settle them through arguments.”

Ma Er of the Artillery Battalion chimed in, “Indeed, esteemed sirs should calmly state the strengths and weaknesses of your respective forces, and then leave the final decision to the Marshal and Her Highness the Princess.”

The Artillery Battalion was largely peripheral now, having never participated in a single battle, thus wielding little influence within the Army Group. Consequently, Ma Da and Ma Er, responsible for hauling those small steel cannons and ammunition, lacked any prominent reputation. Fortunately, these two were originally stable hands and cared little for such accolades. Beyond tending to the horses, their duty was overseeing the eight steel cannons. However, everyone knew the Artillery Battalion was temporarily in charge of the army's warhorses, and the Imperial Horse Bureau was a powerful office, so no one dared slight Ma Da or Ma Er.

Gu Qi declared, “We in the First Army have already stated our advantage: superior numbers and a solid foundation. I ask the esteemed sir and the Princess to consider this carefully.”

A San countered, “Our Second Army is not lacking in numbers either, and its formation was founded upon elite selections, further bolstered by the one thousand seasoned troops brought by the Imperial Horse Bureau, veterans of many battles.”

Little Dingzi piped up, “By that logic, our Third Army has the weakest foundation. I have no objection.”

Liu Dan, staff officer for the Third Army headquarters, nudged Little Dingzi, “Commander, who says we're the weakest? Our Third Army soldiers heard they’ll be grabbing plunder in Huyang, and every single one is hungry like a little tiger…”

Little Dingzi desperately wanted to clap a hand over Liu Dan's mouth. I intervened, “No need to hide it. That was a rule I personally set: during wartime, all spoils captured from the enemy belong to the individual, and that remains in effect. However, to avoid disputes and encourage teamwork, from now on, spoils captured by units of a hundred households, excluding crucial military supplies, will first be handed over for centralized distribution and equal sharing among all personnel. But if any non-enemy individual property violates my established ‘Three Great Disciplines and Eight Points of Attention,’ don’t expect any leniency from me.”

The assembly acknowledged the order. There was no need for flowery language; the soldiers, beyond wanting food, desired wealth. Each was eager to take the main assault, not only to prove they weren't cowards, but also so their men wouldn't receive a smaller 'red envelope' than others. Otherwise, who would volunteer to face death? Battles rarely ended without casualties, except for the few miracles I had engineered.

Considering the practical situation and future development, I added, “Each of the three Army headquarters will detach one thousand men to initially form a contingent based on the former Imperial Guard. For the time being, they will be responsible for the security of the Marshal’s camp and Her Highness the Princess. When this Imperial Guard eventually reaches fifteen thousand strong, they will be returned to the various Commanderies. Tomorrow’s main assault will be spearheaded by Gu Qi, with A San providing support, and Little Dingzi responsible for intercepting reinforcements. Those providing support and interception should not complain; opportunities to attack Huyang City and crush the Liuyang Prefecture will be given to you. Tell your soldiers to eat their meal one bite at a time; rushing things might cause them to choke.”

The commanders loudly agreed. While Huyang was rich, Liuyang was richer still. Furthermore, the direct lineage troops of Prince Shou within Huyang City would certainly possess more wealth than the Northern and Southern Kings' forces outside the walls. Thus, the matter of who would lead or support the assault tomorrow was no longer contested. Based on the enemy deployment maps relayed from the air, discussions on tactics continued late into the night. Once each unit's mission was confirmed, orders were disseminated down through the ranks to the thousand-household and hundred-household units.

As for drawing a thousand men from each army to form the Imperial Guard, the three commanders had already decided: they would surely send over the least desirable dregs. Since this Guard was ultimately to be returned to the Twin Cities, it was better to saddle Grand Tutor Pang with dead weight than to strengthen his forces.

The room emptied instantly. Ma Xiaowei collapsed onto a table, “Oh, I’m exhausted. Never again will I serve as censor.”

Zhou Ni chuckled from behind her, “Your Highness the Princess, back at our home village, the elder sisters often worked until dawn.”

Ma Xiaowei looked slightly surprised, “Wouldn’t that affect your skin? Wouldn’t it cause premature aging?”

Zhou Ni replied, “Of course it would, but we aren't afraid, because Sister Qingqing is here; anything can be resolved.”

Ma Xiaowei gave a knowing smile, then rose, “Speaking of Marshal Zhao and Commander Zhao’s Madam Hua, I won’t keep you. Today is a good day for you to reunite. Good night, everyone.”

Yun Yao pulled Zhou Ni up, “Captain of the Flying Brigade, let’s head back to our rooms and rest. We aren't the main characters today.”

Linglong was still in a daze. Yun Yao nudged her again, “Little girl, are you asleep? Even if you stick close, you shouldn't follow a couple into their private moments.”

“Ah!” Linglong flushed scarlet and hurried away.

Hua Qingqing, with no official duties, had already arranged her own quarters and gone to sleep. Her room was pitch black, but pushing the door with a casual touch, it swung open. I crept toward the bedside, and before I could climb onto the bed, a cool object pressed against my stomach.

“Who is it? Announce yourself first, or I’ll shoot you down.”

“Hua Qian.”

Hua Qingqing chuckled, sliding the laser pistol back under her pillow. “Still trying to be witty with me? I missed you, that’s why I gave myself the name Zhao Qing. Hua Qian—'spending money'—doesn't sound elegant, not like the name ‘Zhao Qing’ I chose.”

I apologized, “I’m sorry, Qingqing. I had no time during the day, and the meeting lasted until midnight. You’ve been wronged. I promised to visit your quarters, but I fear they’ve probably been burned down by now.”

Hua Qingqing shook her head and pulled me into her embrace, “Husband, I have never felt your importance to me as keenly as I do now. Holding you against me, I feel your very presence.”

I flipped over, settling myself atop Hua Qingqing, then adopted a serious tone, “Yes, my mistress. That fellow Zhu Shou gifted me to you. Now I am your slave, and I must obey everything you say.”

Hua Qingqing said, “You still remember that? I specifically asked him at the time. You are to be at my complete disposal, aren’t you?”

“Of course. Even if you found someone else to use me, I would accept it.”

Hua Qingqing teased, “Dream on. Tonight, you belong only to me. I heard your sexual prowess has greatly increased; I intend to observe what changes have occurred with your manhood.”

I laughed, “Is it another circumcision, or will you be taking my seminal fluid for analysis like you did in the small town?”

Hua Qingqing laughed back, “Both. Husband, my body feels so empty. How do you plan to satisfy me?”

I offered, “I have a bowl of nutrient solution ready. Would you like to drink it?”

Hua Qingqing showed displeasure, “Do you take me for Xiao Rou? That’s so vulgar. I prefer them entering my body from below. Speaking of Xiao Rou, husband, do you miss her?”

Yi Xiaorou was Hua Qingqing’s best friend. I replied, “How could I not miss her? Every one of you is precious to me. Our son should be born soon, too. I was just wondering recently if those doctors will be gentle with Qiqi now that you’re not there to look after her.”

Hua Qingqing pulled me down onto her chest. I reached to undo her clothes, stroking her breasts which hadn't deformed after days of restraint. Hua Qingqing murmured passionately, “Being caressed by you feels so warm. Don't worry, everyone at Hua Pharmaceutical Group knows Qiqi’s status; no doctor would dare neglect her. We need to find a way back to Earth quickly. And Qianqian and Yuqing—before, I only knew how to rely on others, but now I rely on you. You solve these troublesome matters. I commissioned people to search for a long time with no results, but you’re clearly more capable; you actually found six of them! Ah, why did you stop suddenly?”

Unconsciously, I had stripped Hua Qingqing bare. We were no longer a newly wedded couple. I drove straight toward the center, and Hua Qingqing gasped, clinging tightly to me.

“Sir! Sir!” Man Fu, the deputy captain of the personal guard, suddenly called from outside the tent.

Hua Qingqing whispered, “Take it out then. It’s been a long time; you really are stronger now.”

I said with resignation, “Wait a moment, I’ll be right back,”

I hastily dressed and stepped out of Hua Qingqing’s tent. Man Fu reported, “Sir, scouts have returned with news. An enemy contingent has quietly slipped out of Huyang City and is attempting a sneak attack on us.”
