Thwack! My head slammed against the rock, and due to the sheer hardness of my body, I managed to gouge a massive crater out of the stone! Damn watermelon rind, there was no cave behind the waterfall after all!
Boom! I used the rebound to plunge headfirst into the pool. This was disastrous. I’d been so confident about curing the Dragon Girl’s illness just moments ago; how was I supposed to explain this failure? Maybe I shouldn't come out at all—I’ll just stay glued to the bottom of this pool forever.
Unfortunately, my sulking didn't last long before Bai and Xue jumped in and dragged me out. The Dragon Girl hadn’t seemed too bothered, but Elena was frantic: “Why did you fall into the water? Did you find the medicine to cure the virus inside the Dragon Girl?”
I sighed in disappointment. “Alas, it seems Little Xue wasn't even born six thousand years ago. This path is a dead end. We need to think of another way.”
I didn't need to say much; they understood that curing the illness was temporarily out of the question. The Dragon Girl stepped forward to comfort me. “Dragon Envoy, don't be sad. If you can’t find it, so be it. Besides, I haven’t transformed yet, so we still have plenty of time.”
While I was pondering where Little Xue might be in this era, Bai and Xue were meticulously examining their surroundings, even sneaking behind the waterfall for a closer look. When they emerged, they were bouncing around with excitement, like ecstatic children.
Just then, Zhu Da and Cai Bao'er, having hidden their treasures, rushed over. Spotting Bai and Xue jumping wildly, they exclaimed, “Dragon Girl, what’s wrong with those two? You’re all gloomy here, and they’re singing and dancing over there.”
The Dragon Girl replied, “I’m not sure either. Bai and Xue aren't usually this flighty. I’ll go ask them what’s happening.”
Zhu Da whispered conspiratorially, “Not flighty? Anyone can have a turn with them.”
The Dragon Girl spoke briefly with Bai and Xue, then returned to sit beside me. I was considering whether I could teleport Little Xue back six thousand years to cure the Dragon Girl and then return, or perhaps bring the Dragon Girl forward six thousand years for immediate treatment. There were plenty of ways to save her; I shouldn’t pin all my hopes on one narrow path. Thinking this over, my dejection began to lift.
“Dragon Girl, what’s wrong with them, jumping around like that?”
The Dragon Girl leaned gently against my side. “Dragon Envoy, don't worry about me. If you’re unhappy, Nana and I will be sad too.”
I laughed. “I was just too surprised initially; it took a moment to process. I’m fine now, don’t worry. I’ll take you back to six thousand years in the future for treatment. I guarantee a complete cure.”
The Dragon Girl nodded. “I believe you, so I’m not worried at all. But Bai and Xue are strange. They’re saying they found a perfect home for their child and that they need to dig a cavern behind the waterfall to build a house…”
I leaped up suddenly. “What! Digging a hole behind the waterfall? Holy hell, so that’s how it is!”
Zhu Da and Cai Bao'er were startled by my outburst, and even the Dragon Girl and Elena, who had been watching me intently, jumped in surprise, looking at me with puzzled eyes.
I declared, “Now I know why I couldn’t find Little Xue—she hasn’t even been born yet! Dragon Girl, quickly ask them what they mean about a child!”
The Dragon Girl sensed the gravity of the situation and pulled Bai and Xue over for a thorough inquiry, translating their answers for us. Bai told the Dragon Girl, “Xue is pregnant, and this child requires over five thousand years to incubate, so we need a secure dwelling place.”
The Dragon Girl exclaimed in astonishment, “Incubate? But we are placental mammals! And five thousand years is such an incredibly long time!”
Bai countered, “Dragon Girl, you don’t know about our Bai family’s heirloom, do you?”
The Dragon Girl shook her head. “No. Does it have anything to do with the child in Xue’s belly?”
Xue patted her stomach, which showed no sign of swelling. “Of course it does. Bai planted that treasure inside me. In fact, it matured back when we were at the rebel camp, but we lacked a suitable place to put it, so we’ve been carrying it around all this time. Kang Hui schemed endlessly to acquire that treasure, but no matter how hard he racked his brain, he never realized the treasure was inside my belly.” The Dragon Girl turned to Bai. “Just what is this treasure? Explain it in detail to everyone.”
Bai stated firmly, “It is a seed. My ancestor brought it back from the planet ‘Water’—the Seed of All Things!”
“The Seed of All Things!” the others exclaimed in unison after hearing the Dragon Girl’s translation. What in the world could that be?
“Yes!” Bai affirmed resolutely. “It is a seed representing the most fundamental and perfect genetic structure of everything in existence. It is neither human nor beast, neither plant nor animal. No one has ever seen its true form, not even my ancestor.”
The Dragon Girl asked confusedly, “Then how do you know it’s not human, beast, plant, or animal?”
Bai shrugged. “Speculation. I’m just basing it on my judgment and experience. This Seed of All Things is the only one of its kind ever created in the entire universe. It was the product of my ancestor’s peak genetic science on ‘Water.’ However, due to various reasons, the conditions necessary for the seed’s evolution were never met after it was created. When I inherited this treasure, I was fortunate enough to discover the necessary conditions for its awakening. Now that we’ve found such a naturally secure haven, we are naturally overjoyed.”
The Dragon Girl pressed, “Why another five thousand years? Didn't you say the seed had already matured inside Xue?”
Bai explained, “It has successfully awakened, but according to my ancestor’s records, it still requires a long period of growth before it matures. It will take a minimum of five thousand Earth years to flower, and at least ten thousand Earth years to bear fruit. Since our lifespans are limited, we must find the optimal location to house it. This place, with its mountains and water and extreme secrecy, is the perfect choice.”
The Dragon Girl inquired, “What use is something that takes such a vast amount of time to mature?”
Bai and Xue smiled together. “What use? By utilizing it, human lifespan can be extended indefinitely, and human physical capabilities can be enhanced limitlessly. It is the convergence of all genes, holding dominion over all energy, life, and death of organic beings!”
Zhu Da and Cai Bao'er couldn't help but gasp, “That powerful! Doesn't that mean invincibility and immortality?”
I, however, mused aloud, “So the flowering stage is five thousand years later. It seems Little Xue really is just a little child.”
Xue urged, “Bai, let’s not waste time. Let’s start digging. I feel the little one moving restlessly inside me—perhaps she likes this place too.”
I volunteered immediately. “I’ll help you dig. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied.”
I had seen what the cavern looked like six thousand years in the future. If I replicated it precisely using my laser sword, everything should line up perfectly again, right?
Bai and Xue were worried about lacking tools, so they were ecstatic when I offered assistance. ‘The mother of the child,’ Xue, even approached and kissed me, which left me rather flustered.
Thanks to my laser sword cutting and Zhu Da and Cai Bao’er helping haul away the rubble, the cavern from six thousand years in the future soon materialized. My memory is excellent; everything was identical to how I remembered it, and I even carved out the pool inside the stone chamber. This delighted Bai and Xue so much they began jumping again; it seemed everything met their desires.
Xue hopped into the pool with a splash and immediately began stripping off her clothes. I pulled Zhu Da and Cai Bao'er aside. “Though we’re curious, we should step out and give them privacy. It looks like Xue is about to give ‘birth,’ and the three of us old blokes standing here doesn't seem appropriate.”
Zhu Da kept glancing back regretfully as we walked out. “She doesn’t mind! Let us witness it!”
“Ah!” The Dragon Girl and Elena cried out in alarm, causing the three men to whirl around and bolt back into the stone chamber just as Xue, submerged in the pool, began to lay an egg from her lower body!
