Elena hesitated. "Can't you do it with your strength? I... I can squeeze out more milk for you to drink. How about that?"
I nearly fainted. What kind of foreign woman had I run into? I was already carrying two large packs, and now she wanted me to carry her and her companion too—treating me like a beast of burden! However, the suggestion that I could get more milk from her, perhaps even suckling it directly, was definitely worth considering.
Seeing me waver, Elena half-embraced my body, rubbing those breasts, which looked ready to burst with milk at any moment, against my arm. "Well, yes or no? Or perhaps you could drink it yourself? Don't worry, I won't tell your girlfriend when we get back."
I coughed. "Consider me cursed. Come on, this time I'll be the devoted servant. If I let you walk on your own, you'll probably starve before you even leave this grassland."
Gu Tian'er didn't object to our help. Elena helped her onto my back, maneuvering sideways to leave half the space clear. Then, with a steadying hand from me, she climbed onto my back too. Thankfully, my two hands were positioned beneath their buttocks for support, otherwise, they both would have tumbled off.
The configuration was rather scandalous. If Zhu Da and Cai Bao'er saw this, it would be disastrous: two girls, beautiful as flowers, draped across my back, and my hands gripping their behinds. It was completely overt; if I didn't use my hands to support their bottoms, they simply couldn't stay seated. Because they were both on my back, they couldn't grip my waist with their legs like before; they had to swing both legs to one side. Relying solely on their arms around my neck was impossible to support their weight, which meant my 'Golden Flower Buttocks Killer' skills were required once more.
Elena shouted excitedly on my back, "Zhao Qian, you're amazing! I like you more and more! Let's go!"
I wouldn't mistake the affection of an American girl for true feeling. They might say "like" to any man; it wasn't the same as the "like" spoken by a girl from the Great Dragon Country. I started running with powerful strides, hoping to find food ahead, or we truly would starve.
We hadn't gone far following the tracks Gu Tian'er had left when we spotted something resembling a parachute in the tall grass. I suddenly understood and said to Elena, "I know who she is."
Elena asked, "Who?"
"She's the prehistoric human who blew up the Serpent Clan's main base last night. Her aircraft was shot down by their missiles. She bailed out injured and ended up running into us."
Gu Tian'er, on my back, naturally didn't understand our conversation. Otherwise, she surely would have nodded. At this moment, due to excessive blood loss, compounded by my constant bouncing and swaying, she was drowsy and paying no attention to our discussion.
Elena said, "It would be great if we could find her aircraft. I wonder if it could fly if we managed to repair it."
I replied, "Her aircraft is wrecked. You better just stay put on my back."
Elena smugly draped half her arm over my shoulder. "Actually, your shoulder is the safest place. If it really came down to it, I doubt I'd want to ride a flying saucer anyway."
We celebrated too soon. I pushed myself to the absolute limit, running until the sun began to dip, but found nothing edible. However, the grass on the plain was gradually getting shorter, finally reaching only knee-height. This meant there was still hope; we were slowly moving out of the main grassland area.
Seeing that dusk was approaching, and the two women on my back were clearly struggling with the jarring movement, it was best to rest early. Besides, I wasn't made of iron. Having skipped several meals, sustaining myself only on a large cup of breast milk and carrying such heavy baggage, my physical reserves were severely depleted. If not for this, I could have easily entered supersonic speed long ago.
I found a slightly elevated spot and set the two women down. "We'll rest here tonight. You two stay right here and don't go anywhere. If there's danger, shoot. I'm going out to find food. If I don't eat tonight, I probably won't have the strength to travel tomorrow."
Whether Gu Tian'er understood me or not, I handed her a laser rifle. She would certainly know how to use that. With the two of them having laser rifles for defense, I could search for food with peace of mind. Tonight, I absolutely had to find something to eat—even if it was a human-snake, I'd roast it and eat it.
Gu Tian'er's complexion was much better than when we first found her. She quietly took the laser rifle and tucked it into the armor around her waist—the spot where she presumably kept hers, as she must have misplaced hers somehow.
I spread out the moisture-proof oilcloth I brought from the pack onto the soft grass, then gathered some dry straw to layer on top for warmth tonight. After finishing these preparations, I turned to Elena. "I'm leaving. Be careful. If I can't find food, I'm absolutely not coming back."
Elena grabbed my arm and chased me a few steps. "No! Even if you can't find food, you must come back, or what will we do? At least tonight you still have milk to drink. Promise me, okay?"
I reassured Elena, "Don't worry, I will definitely find food."
Turning back to look for food was unrealistic, as we hadn't seen anything along the way. I could only search forward, hoping that this much shorter grassland might host wild rabbits, pheasants, or even mice.
Moving without the weight of two people and two large packs, my speed increased significantly. I hurried along while keeping an eye on my surroundings. After about an hour of fast travel, I found no animals, but the grass beneath my feet was getting shorter—down to ankle height. Moreover, the soil was becoming increasingly sandy. What kind of place was this? I was beginning to doubt if this was even Earth.
Because of my high speed, in that one hour, I had traveled beyond the sightline of our camp. They couldn't see me, and I couldn't see them. I couldn't help but feel anxious. What if I couldn't find food further ahead? I was too far away and constantly worried about them.
After another half hour, the sandy ground worsened. Just as I was panicking, the sand beneath my feet suddenly softened, and my body was abruptly lifted by something unseen! Trouble! There was something under the sand.
I immediately used the momentum of my run to leap forward, but as soon as my feet hit the ground, the sand lifted again! Then, giant worms began emerging from the surrounding sand! These creatures were enormous, each at least several meters thick. They poked their heads out of the sand, their bodies constantly undulating toward the sky.
I didn't understand the situation. I rapidly retreated several hundred meters, stopping only when I was clear of the worms. These creatures ignored me, the unexpected visitor. After rising from the sand, they remained stationary. The ground was engulfed in dust, and in the distance, more colossal worms continued to breach the sand—the numbers were simply incalculable.
It was either complete silence or earth-shattering commotion. What kind of era was this? Why was six thousand years ago more chaotic than six thousand years later? I hid to the side to observe their movements. Even if I intended to roast a worm for food, I needed to act cautiously. With such immense numbers, causing trouble carelessly could be disastrous.
About ten minutes later, the great worms had fully emerged, and the dust gradually settled. Before me lay a massive forest of these creatures, their heads swaying toward the dim starry sky, seemingly waiting for something.
Their wait finally yielded results. A fleet of flying saucers, numbering in the hundreds, began to appear in the faint night sky, densely packed like locusts. The saucers flew closer and closer until they hovered directly above the worm forest. As if receiving a signal, the giant worms collectively retracted their heads, then violently sprang upward.
Pffft! A ball of glowing plasma shot from their mouths. This projectile moved with incredible initial velocity, soaring toward the approaching saucers, illuminating the sky brilliantly, as if countless fireflies were dancing.
I didn't know what the plasma was that the giant worms spat, but it traveled like a cannonball, perhaps even faster, directly into the saucer formation. Saucers unable to dodge the shining projectile were struck, sparking brilliantly before undergoing violent explosions.
If my estimation was correct, this plasma contained a powerful electric current, causing the saucers to short-circuit and explode upon impact. What were these worms? They were each equivalent to a plasma cannon!
The saucer fleet suffered heavy losses from the surprise attack, but the remaining saucers immediately shifted to an offensive posture. They rapidly dodged wave after wave of plasma fire and seized opportunities to launch laser strikes against the giant worms. Worms struck by the lasers smoked, collapsing onto the sandy ground.
Suddenly, all the giant worms pivoted, aiming their cannons at a single saucer and unleashing a furious barrage. Only then did I notice that sitting atop one of the giant worms was a person! It turned out he was commanding the worms in this battle.
This person was young, likely male. From my aesthetic viewpoint, he was quite handsome. I wondered why he was training a horde of plasma-spitting giant worms. Could he be the leader of some 'Worm Tribe'? I had never heard of such a tribe. Moreover, these creatures hadn't been seen in six thousand years, meaning they must have become extinct.
The handsome young man directed the worms to attack one specific saucer relentlessly, ignoring all others. Although that target saucer was fiercely protected by dozens of others, it ultimately could not escape destruction. Several massive balls of plasma struck it, and the saucer immediately ejected a life pod before its hull exploded violently.
The young man raised a pair of binoculars. After confirming the result, he swiftly ordered the giant worms to converge on the location of the life pod. The other saucers attempted a rescue, but the plasma was too intense. After losing dozens of their own craft, they finally abandoned the rescue effort. Soon after, the saucer fleet retreated in frustration, knowing that staying meant total annihilation.
This battle was truly breathtaking, more thrilling than any American blockbuster war movie. But why was the handsome young man fighting the saucers? Was there an important person inside that particular ship? Should I follow them to find out?
After several considerations, I decided against causing trouble for the moment. Finding food to solve our hunger was the priority; otherwise, without strength, if these giant worms decided to spray plasma at us again, we might not even have a chance to dodge.
The giant worms were gathering in another direction, leaving behind a pile of scorched worm carcasses emitting smoke. I wondered what these worms tasted like. If all else failed, I might just hack off a chunk of worm meat to barbecue.
Seeing the entrance to the worm tunnels in the sand was remarkably large, I stepped a few paces inside out of curiosity. The cavern inside was even more spacious. The sand on the walls had been mixed with some kind of mucus, making it hard and solid. Following these tunnels for a short distance, I discovered an even larger chamber. In the center of this chamber was a heap of colossal white eggs. Could these be worm eggs?
Checking other tunnels, I found that chambers containing these giant eggs were surprisingly numerous. I decided to carry one egg back. The worms’ plasma might have contaminated their bodies, but these eggs, assuming they hadn't hatched, should be fine. Based on known species from six thousand years later, eggs should be edible.
So, ignoring their war, I lifted an egg larger than a person and quickly fled that dangerous place. With the promise of food, the journey back was swift. Before long, I saw the fire already blazing at our camp. With laser rifles, there was no need for friction fire-starting.
Elena was gazing expectantly in the direction I had left. This touched me deeply; I hadn't expected an American girl to be so thoughtful and attentive. "I'm back," I said, the greeting sounding like a husband returning home.
Elena rushed into my arms. "It's been almost three hours! I was getting frantic waiting for you."
I gently set down the giant egg. "I never break my word. I promised to come back with food, and here I am. Now let's figure out how to eat this egg."
Elena circled the egg with delight. "What is this thing? Where did you find it?"
Seeing me return, even Gu Tian'er showed a smile. When she saw the massive egg on my shoulder, she gasped, and then a clear, melodious voice, like singing, sounded out. Elena and I exchanged a look; this prehistoric hyper-civilized human had finally spoken.
"What did she say?" Elena asked me.
Seeing Gu Tian'er gesturing toward the giant egg, I surmised, "She's definitely asking about this egg. Too bad we can't understand her, and she can't understand us. Well, not understanding might be simpler. Come on, let's push it toward the fire to roast first. I'll tell you about the battle I just witnessed—it was epic!"
The campfire wasn't large; Elena had gathered the dry grass. I went out again to find more fuel and then placed the egg right in the center of the flames to cook. The three of us sat by the fire, and I recounted everything I had seen to Elena.
Gu Tian'er listened intently, though I figured she couldn't grasp a word. Elena treated it like a mere story; her attention wasn't on my narrative at all. Instead, she was staring at the giant egg in the fire, drooling. Even though she hadn't been traveling, she needed nutrition after supplying me with milk continuously.
The giant egg cracked not long after being exposed to the heat, leaking a substance resembling egg white. Under the roasting flames, it quickly solidified into 'egg flower' curds. I tried prying off a piece, brought it before Gu Tian'er, and gestured, asking, "You must recognize this, right? Is it edible? If I eat a piece, will I be poisoned?"
Fearing Gu Tian'er wouldn't understand, I pretended to take a bite, then dramatically collapsed, eyes rolling back. Gu Tian'er suddenly smiled—a beautiful, joyous smile. She shook her head, snatched the egg flower from my hand, and began eating it herself.
I commented to Elena, "See, prehistoric people have no manners. She forgot to offer us a taste first, considering we are her saviors."
Elena scoffed. "Come on, she was just proving to you it's safe to eat. Hurry up and get a piece for me! I'm about to pass out."
With water to drink, egg flower to eat, and two beautiful women beside me, life was much better than the previous two days. After eating some of the egg flower, I judged the time was right. I pried off a piece of the shell and ate the contents—the white and the yolk. I had expected the egg to have some special structure, but it turned out to be exactly like an egg from six thousand years later; there was nothing inside but the albumen and the yolk.
Elena, showing no reservation about Gu Tian'er's presence, leaned contentedly against me. "Zhao Qian, I'm full. Let's sleep; I'm so tired. It’s cold tonight. You know what you should do, right?"
I replied, "Isn't it just holding you while we sleep? I'd love that. But doing that in front of a prehistoric beauty... we should at least display the good conduct of humans from six thousand years later."
Elena spat at me. "Pah! Don't think I don't know what you've done! Are you hugging me or not? If not, don't expect any more milk from me!"
"Hug, hug, hug," I quickly agreed. To refuse such a pleasant opportunity would make me an idiot. As for Gu Tian'er, she certainly wasn't from the same era as the one six thousand years hence, and even if she were, it wouldn't matter; I didn't care.
I had two pieces of moisture-proof oilcloth, initially intending to sleep separately from Elena. Now, with Gu Tian'er added, resources weren't strained because Elena demanded to sleep with me. I divided the straw into two piles and gestured for Gu Tian'er to go to one pile to rest.
Gu Tian'er didn't speak, but she smiled at me before quietly slipping into the straw heap, where she soon fell silent. Elena pulled me into her pile of straw, which was padded with a few articles of clothing for warmth.
I suggested, "Give her a couple of her clothes. Look how thinly she’s dressed; what if she catches a cold?"
Elena became furious. "Those are my clothes! If she catches a cold, don't you have your skills? You... you could do that to me, why couldn't you do that to her!"
Sweat beaded on my forehead. How could she say that? It sounded as if Elena knew exactly what I had done to her. But then again, when a girl's most precious part undergoes a change, it would be strange if she noticed nothing.
Feeling guilty toward Elena, I didn't know what to say about her selfishness. The atmosphere grew awkward, but thankfully, Elena broke the tension herself.
"Give her one set, and I'll deliver it myself to save you from getting a bad reputation." Elena then took a uniform and walked over to Gu Tian'er's spot on the other side of the fire. Hearing her words, was she perhaps jealous of Gu Tian'er? Is this something an American girl does?
Elena returned empty-handed shortly after and burrowed back into the straw pile. "Sleep," she commanded, then ignored me completely.
This girl really had a temper. What to do? Forget it, I wouldn't stoop to the level of this young girl. I decided to rest too.
I didn't climb into the straw pile but lay on the very edge of the oilcloth, gazing up at the starlit night sky, lost in thought. I realized that internal conflicts among the prehistoric people were already severe. But where was the Moon Spaceship? Where were the men in black? And what about Zhu Da, Cai Bao'er, and Xia Huren? There was so much to do, and time was short.
Suddenly, a soft, tender hand reached out, grabbed my arm, and pulled me into the straw pile. Then, a moving, delicate body climbed onto mine. Elena was breathing heavily next to my ear.
"Bad boy, are you mad at me? I haven't even gotten mad at you yet. Tell me every mistake you've made, analyze them one by one. If you get one wrong or miss something, I’ll bite your ear."
