Damn it, Lin He inwardly cursed, realizing she had completely forgotten this fellow was a genuine ancient person and wouldn't understand some of her words.

The truth was, Lin He wasn't afraid of him discovering her speech was different; rather, she sometimes worried that if she said certain things, she wouldn't know how to explain them clearly, because given her current level of classical language proficiency, she genuinely couldn't convey the original meaning of some phrases at that time.

Just as Lin He hesitated over how to explain things, Wen Ningxuan seemed to figure it out himself. He said, "Does what He'er means imply that from now on, this place will belong only to the two of us, so we can live our lives well, ignoring everything else?"

Hearing this, Lin He quickly nodded in agreement.

Fortunately, Wen Ningxuan often heard all sorts of strange things from Lin He’s mouth, so he didn't press the issue this time. He nodded and said, "Good, then let's follow what He'er says. From now on, this is our home for the two of us. He'er can do whatever she wants. If you feel too cooped up, just have Mother-in-law and Chen'er move here to stay for a while."

"And Xiao Bao—didn't you say he’ll be taking the county examination for the Tongshi soon? Why don't you bring him here during this time? I can help him review his studies when I get back in the evenings. It was inconvenient when we were with the Wen family; although this courtyard isn't large, it's enough space for Mother-in-law’s family."

Lin He was deeply touched at this moment. When was this man ever not so thoughtful? He always cared for her family even more meticulously than she did. She hadn't even thought of these arrangements, yet he was already planning them.

Lin He smiled at him and said, "Mmm, we'll discuss these things later. This is only our first day here. Let me familiarize myself with the courtyard first. I still get turned around just going out; how could I possibly invite them over so soon?"

"Understood. Then spend these few days getting familiar with the courtyard. If you find anything unsatisfactory that needs changing, just instruct Shunzhu and the others to handle it. Originally, I planned to bring you here first, and then we could discuss alterations. I didn't expect things to move so quickly," Wen Ningxuan agreed, nodding.

Lin He listened, looked around, and spoke, "I think the courtyard is quite nice; it shouldn't need any major renovations. I just need to see what essentials are missing, and then I'll have someone fetch them so I can arrange things myself. Shall we check the other rooms first?"

Wen Ningxuan nodded and walked downstairs with Lin He. When they reached the courtyard, Ziqing had already brought over the remaining belongings. Ziqing and Ziyu were directing people in unloading. Seeing Lin He and Wen Ningxuan descend, everyone in the courtyard immediately stopped their work and came forward to pay their respects.

Lin He told Ziqing and the others to continue moving things. As for the original residents—the old steward and the four wet nurses—Lin He instructed them to halt their activities.

These four wet nurses were all around forty or fifty years old, looking kind and benevolent. As they approached, they respectfully bowed. After a brief introduction, Lin He told them to resume their tasks.

However, it was the old steward. Lin He had heard from Wen Ningxuan when she mentioned moving in that morning that everyone called this steward Uncle Yi. He was the former steward of the main Wen residence, moved to this smaller residence to retire due to his age.

Though he was called the former steward, he didn't appear overly old, perhaps only a little over sixty, and seemed quite energetic. When he saw Lin He, while his demeanor was respectful, it didn't come across as subservient.

Lin He thought that since this steward had served the Wen family his entire life, he must be exceptionally loyal. Moreover, to hold the position of steward, his capabilities certainly couldn't be underestimated. And from Wen Ningxuan’s words, she could tell that Wen Ningxuan held this steward in high regard.

So, when Lin He saw the old steward, she felt a spark of familiarity. She smiled at him and said courteously, "Uncle Yi, our sudden move here must have caused you quite a bit of trouble, hasn't it?"

The old steward beside her, who had been keeping his head slightly bowed, showed a flicker of admiration in his eyes after hearing Lin He’s words. "What are you saying, Young Madam? This courtyard belongs to the Young Master; I am merely a servant. How could I presume to receive such courtesy from you? As you have just arrived, Young Madam, if there is anything you require my service for, simply send someone to call for me."

With that, he bowed again to Wen Ningxuan and Lin He, then resumed directing the movers. Lin He didn't disturb them further and beckoned Wen Ningxuan to walk to another part of the courtyard.

In the following days, Wen Ningxuan continued his routine at the shops, while Lin He spent every day organizing the courtyard with Ziyu, Ziqing, and the other maids. For items that needed adding, she sent Shunzhu and Shuncai to purchase them. For minor changes, Lin He handled them all herself. In the end, though the courtyard's structure hadn't seen grand renovations, nearly every item within it had been repositioned by Lin He in a massive rearrangement.

Anyway, during this period, every time Wen Ningxuan returned, he couldn't find the little woman in their room. He would always have to have a maid announce her return, and then she would excitedly chatter to him about everything she had accomplished that day.

Seeing her happy, Wen Ningxuan let her be; he hadn't expected her to achieve much in arranging the courtyard without making structural changes.

However, after just a few days, Wen Ningxuan realized he had significantly underestimated the capabilities of this little woman. After about ten days, Wen Ningxuan returned from outside and, seeing Lin He wasn't in their room, didn't bother sending a maid to announce him. Instead, he deliberately wandered around the courtyard.

Only then did he notice that quite a few areas of the courtyard were different from before. For instance, where there was once an empty patch of lawn just inside the entrance, the little woman had installed something that looked like a swing but was somewhat like a chair, complete with a rain-proof awning. The wooden seat below was fitted with an ecru cushion, and when seated, it swayed gently, not as violently as a swing, making it incredibly comfortable.

Similarly, the stone tables and benches by the pavilion had all been covered with thick cushions and tablecloths. The cushions and tablecloths matched the swing's padding, all made from the ecru fabric she favored. Though these were minor details, from a distance, they made the entire area feel warm and inviting.

Near the plum grove, she had cordoned off a small section that remained empty for now, though it looked like she intended to create a small flower bed there.

Inside the house, Wen Ningxuan had initially assumed Lin He preferred the simple furniture from their previous building and planned to have a new set made and installed. But Lin He refused, and he let her have her way. Now, the small couch in the main room was laden with throw pillows, and the couch in the study had them too.

Recalling these details, Wen Ningxuan couldn't help but smile. This was simply the nature of this little woman: if she liked something, she would put immense effort into achieving it, and no matter the difficulty, she would never complain of fatigue. But if she disliked something, no matter how much others praised it, she wouldn't even spare it a glance.

It seemed buying this house was the right decision after all. Judging by her industriousness these past few days, this little woman must truly love this place.
