Through evolution, the Scorpions gained the ability to generate and expel vast swathes of corrosive, blood-red shrouds that rapidly decay and annihilate anything they touch. Known also as the Plague of Blood, its effect is uniform on all targets, inflicting severe damage on both troops and structures, irrespective of alliance.
Once the corrosion begins, the plague inflicts continuous damage on any affected unit until the plague subsides! Although this particular Scorpion was instantly killed, in the densest concentration of airborne units, creatures were already shrieking in agony, beating their wings—clearly infected by the spores, their flesh and very health being eaten away.
Since the Black Sting Zerg had already expanded to occupy a considerable territory, there was no way to protect every single base from the Scorpion's Black Bee ability, especially as the aerial forces on Pandora were predominantly melee-focused. Among the swarms of aerial units already appearing on the battlefield were not only Manta Rays but also numerous strange and unknown creatures, all fiercely menacing.
Facing the enemy's assault, the Black Spine Brain Bug swiftly responded: Attack! It would engage the opposition in aerial combat!
To defeat the enemy where they were strongest!! Vast numbers of Spore Wyverns and Kamikaze Mosquitoes were hatched, and the Kamikaze Mosquitoes demonstrated terrifying area-of-effect lethality!
Meanwhile, the intense bombardment of the Spore Wyverns proved exceptionally effective at countering the enemy's dense formations. Coupled with the Scorpion's Plague continuously draining enemy health, and the Queen's Green Net drastically slowing enemy flight speed, the combination of Spore Wyverns and Blast Mosquitoes achieved astonishing results.
Any moment, a massive carcass could plummet from the sky, to be consumed by the Creep amidst pools of gore and torn flesh.” Amidst the shrieks echoing across the entire field, eardrums felt ready to burst! Even more alarming, just as the Swarm was about to gain the upper hand, the Black Sting Zerg began diverting massive numbers of Drone bees to plant dense ranks of Anti-Air Spore Towers upon the Creep!!
Though incubating these powerful combat organs required a certain amount of time, leaving them highly vulnerable during development, their cheap production cost (requiring no rare GAS minerals) placed Eva in a true dilemma. Either press the attack relentlessly to shatter the enemy's disadvantaged air force!
Or divert forces to strike these incubating Anti-Air Spore Towers! The former was a gamble—a bet that the enemy air power could be annihilated before the Spore Towers fully matured.
The latter was the safer path, yet it would grant the Zerg's precarious aerial line a much-needed respite! The Zerg defenses always gave the impression that they might collapse the very next second, yet they stubbornly held!
Their sheer resilience even suggested a deep, hidden confidence! Ultimately, the Earth Mother Eva chose caution; every incubating Anti-Air Spore Tower was annihilated without exception.
However, during this time, the Zerg Wyverns and Blast Mosquitoes were not idle, inflicting massive damage upon the Swarm forces that had dispersed their attention to attack the Spore Towers. Both sides, unfortunately, were dragged once again into a war of attrition.
Faced with this situation, the Earth Mother Eva no longer retreated; instead, she chose to reinforce! Amidst the fierce combat, colossal shadows marked by interwoven yellow, red, and black stripes suddenly materialized in the distant sky.
An overwhelming sense of pressure surged forth! It felt as if the very heavens were bowing low to descend and cover everything, oppressing the spirit!
The true overlords of Pandora had finally arrived. “This is likely the final wave of combat,” Fang Senyan murmured, “If the Black Spine Tribe can hold after this fight, then the Earth Mother Eva will probably consider making concessions.
After all, her instinct is to maintain ecological balance, not accelerate its destruction.” Three enormous Overlord Phantom Wyverns, deploying their colossal wingspans, glided slowly from the distance—though a bloodbath was imminent, they maintained an air of elegance and composure, like monarchs surveying and defending their domain. Even though Fang Senyan and the others had witnessed their true form and engaged them up close before, how could desiccated, mummified heads compare to their truly formidable, spirit-infused, majestic physical forms?
The Earth Mother Eva, having deployed her final trump cards, did not hesitate to bestow blessings upon them! First, their health points were estimated to have increased by at least a million—and second, they became immune to all forms of negative status effects!
The Scorpion's Blood Mist: Ineffective! The Queen's Green Slime Net: Ineffective!
The pale green spores from the ground-based, crisscrossing Anti-Air Spore Towers splashed against their bodies, scattering green ichor, but only chipped off a single point of health! And among the Zerg forces currently deployed, besides the ground-based Mammoth Beasts, there was nothing that could withstand even a single attack from these three Overlord Phantom Wyverns!!
The Zerg defensive line was instantly shattered, with the three Overlord Phantom Wyverns leading the charge like an arrowhead. Numerous infested structures exploded under relentless assault into clouds of gore.
The Manta Ray Wyverns, led by their King, fiercely pressed their attack; having fought hard until this point, their morale surged by another third. The stalemate on the battlefield instantly tipped into a rout, and the Swarm side erupted as if doused in oil over a flame, surging upwards to counterattack with overwhelming force!
Yet, the Zerg remained calm—calmly dying, calmly retreating, mechanically continuing to clear structures and unit types, even unhesitatingly throwing Drones collecting resources to the front as a desperate measure. If the Swarm was a roaring, turbulent fire, the Zerg swarm was cold, mechanical, emotionless!
They discarded all feeling! Fang Senyan even saw the Black Spine Brain Bug itself rise into the air, using its own body to block a few enemy strikes.
Judging by its stout appearance, it could likely survive a few hits, but the situation had deteriorated to the point where someone of its stature had to act as a shield! This showed how perilous the situation had become.
At this moment, Mo Gansha’s breathing grew heavy, for he too could see that even after absorbing a few blows, the Black Spine Brain Bug quickly retreated to safety, but the Swarm would reach the main Hive in another thirty seconds at most! Once the Hive was destroyed, the "dual core" supporting the entire Black Spine Zerg would be reduced to a single core!
The ensuing result would be a full-scale retreat! And if the Black Spine Zerg were wiped from this planet, their Golden Side Quest would be forfeit!
Even Reef was deeply troubled by this turn of events; on a battlefield like this, individual power was suppressed to its absolute limit, and there was no way for him to even call for reinforcements! Of the three, only Fang Senyan managed to maintain a semblance of composure outwardly.
While his hands were tightly clenched, his palms slick with cold sweat, his eyes still held a glimmer of hope, fixed on the distant sky! During the intense fighting that preceded this, the Black Spine Brain Bug had still maintained precise point-to-point control.
Some heavily wounded Spore Wyverns, moments from death, were directly pulled from the battlefield and cast into adjacent, uncontested airspace. Leveraging the Zerg's overwhelming advantage fighting on home turf, these heavily wounded Wyverns could rapidly regenerate their health under the care of their Hosts and the Creep.
And it was this specific airspace reserved for the critically injured that Fang Senyan was focused on! Following his gaze, the others could clearly see that the nearly forty heavily wounded Spore Wyverns, which had been flapping their wings there, had, at some unknown point, begun spinning silk cocoons in mid-air!
They had transformed into dense, massive, grayish-white crescent-shaped thick cocoons, hovering eerily in the sky. Furthermore, faint, wispy white filaments stretched from these giant cocoons, stabbing outward like steel needles in all directions.
The Spore Wyverns were capable of a second evolution! And this looked like a killing move intentionally reserved by the Black Spine Tribe, specifically designed to counter the war gods sent by the Earth Mother Eva...
...the Overlord Phantom Wyverns! What was hatching from those thick cocoons?
“Twenty seconds left,” Mo Gansha ground out from between his teeth, “The main Hive will be attacked directly.” The instant his words faded, the grayish-white crescent cocoons in that distant airspace burst open sequentially, splashing yellow-green amniotic fluid, as if a biological rain had descended upon that spot! In the very next second, a chorus of bizarre insectoid howls echoed across the battlefield, and a brand new unit type appeared in everyone’s view.
This creature’s size was in no way inferior to that of a Mammoth Beast. Two hardened chitinous wings covered its back, accompanied by a massive abdomen, ferocious mandibles, and black fuzz covering its exterior!
It resembled a giant scarab beetle with a pot belly, and its skin was exceptionally thick. Contradicting its bulky, sluggish appearance, its movement speed was astonishingly fast.
Almost the instant it hatched, it flew directly to the area most in need of support, challenging all enemy air units! The Zerg’s ultimate unit—the Devourer—had finally arrived!
The Devourer was the Zerg's most formidable aerial offensive unit. Despite its immense size, it moved with extreme swiftness!
Its swollen belly synthesized and mixed potent venom at high speed, which it then sprayed maniacally from its ferocious mouthparts.
