The next day, Lin He and the others decided to head to Tianxin Town after breakfast. Xiao Bao had a few days off each month, and seeing Lin He hitching up the carriage, both he and Chen Er insisted on going along. Lin He couldn't refuse them, so she brought them, along with Zi Qing, Zi Yu, and Chang Lin.

Chen Er had been to Tianxin Town several times, so she wasn't overly excited, but Xiao Bao had never been. This was his first visit, and he was visibly thrilled the entire way, constantly asking Lin He what Tianxin Town was like, if it was fun, and if the schools there were bigger than theirs, peppering her with so many questions she could barely keep up.

The group arrived in town in a lively chatter. Lin He asked Chang Geng and the others to park the carriage aside and have Xiao Bao and Chen Er wait on it while she went to see Uncle Wen first, after which she would return to take them out. After giving instructions, Lin He left with the two maids.

Upon arriving at Caidie Xuan, Uncle Wen seemed somewhat surprised to see Lin He. He smiled, "He'er, you haven't come into town since the New Year. What brings you out today?"

"Yes, we've been busy at home since the New Year and haven't been able to visit. These few shops have relied entirely on you, Uncle Wen. I came today because there's something I need to show you," Lin He replied with a smile.

Uncle Wen led them to the back room, where she showed him a small box of facial mask she had prepared. She then explained how to use the mask, the potential complications if they were to sell it, and her own thoughts on the matter. After hearing Lin He, Uncle Wen asked with some confusion, "How is it that the fragrant pomade and soap can be stored for so long, but this facial mask cannot?"

"The materials and methods for making the mask are different from those for the pomade and soap, so naturally, there are differences, which is why it's a bit more troublesome," Lin He briefly explained to Uncle Wen.

Uncle Wen nodded and said, "What you're saying makes sense. If it takes more effort, the price will naturally have to go up. How should we price this?"

In reality, the materials for the mask Lin He made herself cost almost nothing. The trouble came from the need for Uncle Wen's shop staff to notify her and handle pickups whenever a customer pre-ordered. Lin He planned to custom-order very small porcelain bottles, packaging the product in small boxes, with three uses per box, selling each small box for five hundred wen. She intended to take only half the money, leaving the rest for Uncle Wen to manage as he saw fit.

Lin He explained her idea to Uncle Wen, adding, "Uncle Wen, five hundred wen for such a small box might seem a bit expensive, but the effects of this mask are excellent; the results are visible after just one use. For regular customers, I can give them a trial use to see. If they wish to purchase, they only need to have your shop assistant pre-order a day in advance."

After speaking, she had Zi Qing take out the several types of masks she had made the previous day from the bundle, showing them to Uncle Wen, explaining that these were only for display for now—not for use—and she only needed to be notified if a customer decided to buy.

Uncle Wen nodded, thinking Lin He's idea was viable. Although this item was troublesome, women would go to great lengths for beauty. Moreover, Lin He's 'Ninghe Cosmetics' already had a reputation among the wealthy women, so selling this mask shouldn't be difficult.

Once the mask matter was settled, Lin He chatted with Uncle Wen for a while longer, updating him on recent family affairs. She also tentatively mentioned her idea of opening a small food shop. Uncle Wen smiled and said, "It's excellent that He'er is thinking of opening an eatery. The pastries you sent home last time were incomparable to any others. If He'er opens a shop, just let me know if you need any help, though I have one condition."

Uncle Wen paused deliberately, and Lin He looked at him, puzzled. Uncle Wen smiled and continued, "That is, you cannot charge me for the pastries I eat from now on."

He burst out laughing, and Lin He laughed along. Uncle Wen then inquired about the specifics: what kind of shop Lin He envisioned, how large it needed to be, whether she planned to buy or rent, and when she intended to open it, offering to keep an eye out for suitable locations through his connections. Lin He shared her thoughts, and Uncle Wen cheerfully agreed, adding that he would send someone to notify her if any orders for the masks came in.

Having finalized everything at Caidie Xuan, Lin He hurried back toward her family's carriage. However, Xiao Bao and Chen Er were no longer inside; they had already stepped out and were looking around the street, their eyes darting everywhere.

Seeing Lin He and the others approaching, Xiao Bao ran over, pouting slightly in complaint, "Big Sister, why did you take so long? Look, it's nearly noon. Second Sister and I have been waiting in the carriage for ages, and we're hungry."

He'er knew she had talked for too long. She smiled and said, "Yes, it's Big Sister's fault. I was delayed by some business. You're hungry, so Big Sister will take you to get something to eat, and while we're there, I'll have Zi Qing fetch Big Brother to eat with us. Then we can go play on the street, alright?"

Xiao Bao nodded happily, pulling Lin He forward.

Lin He instructed Chang Geng to watch the carriage while she took the group to find an eatery. She also sent Zi Qing and Zi Yu to He Cai Doll's place to call Da Bao over for the meal as well. Thinking it was a rare outing for her younger siblings, Lin He ordered several good dishes at the restaurant. By the time Da Bao arrived, the food was served.

Lin He seated Zi Qing, Zi Yu, and Chang Lin together for the meal. Zi Qing and Zi Yu, having been with Lin He for a long time, sat down when she directed them to adjacent tables. Chang Lin, however, initially refused, insisting he would remain standing to serve Xiao Bao. Only after Lin He insisted did he sit down with Zi Qing and Zi Yu.

After everyone satisfied their hunger, Lin He and Da Bao took Chen Er and Xiao Bao out to explore the streets. They walked and bought everything—toys, snacks, some inexpensive jewelry—acquiring quite a bit. Soon, Chang Lin and Zi Qing’s hands were nearly full. As Lin He mentioned it was time to head back, Xiao Bao tugged on her clothes and said, "Big Sister, look at that child; they look so pitiful."

Lin He followed the direction of Xiao Bao's pointing finger. There were two children, a boy and a girl, dressed in rags. The older girl looked about ten, while the boy, under six, lay on her lap, eyes closed, seemingly in great pain. They sat in a street corner next to two bundles, looking less like beggars but not much better off than them due to their tattered clothing.

As an orphan herself, Lin He had seen too much of this, both in her previous and current life. She would often give some silver to those she found truly pitiable. Xiao Bao, having been out less often, saw the boy who was about his age and felt a surge of compassion.
